The star of Mary Poppins has managed to age like fine wine and is a welcome sight to anyone who has lived through the 60s.
With each passing year, most individuals feel a certain sense of dreariness adding on to their lives. This may apply doubly more for those without children or grandchildren as they only have their memories to dwell with. When you have been an entertainer for your entire life and made countless people laugh for several decades, it's not easy to know when (or even how) to stop and call it a day. However harsh the aspect of time may seem on all of us, some people manage to age like wine and actually get better with each passing day.
Among this list of celebrated legends is Dick Van Dyke, who is a welcome sight to anyone who has lived through the 60s. The star of Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was born in West Plains Missouri all the way back in 1925. His mother Hazel Victoria was a stenographer and father Loren Wayne a salesman. The young Van Dyke almost became a man of the cloth, but the silver screen enticed him onto the chosen path of entertainment. As mentioned on his official website, he wrote, "I suppose that I never completely gave up my childhood idea of being a minister. Only the medium and the message changed. I have still endeavoured to touch people’s souls, to raise their spirits and put smiles on their faces’.”

His razor-sharp wit and seemingly endless amounts of energy have lasted throughout the long decades since his debut. Van Dyke is actually 94 years old today but doesn't look anywhere close to that age, well in his attitude at least. Sure, the white hair and wrinkles are clear as daylight, but what potential centurion came forth to publicly show his support for a presidential candidate with some panache. Van Dyke recently endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic primaries before the latter's exit from the presidential race. “I have all my marbles,” Van Dyke said as he went on to assure his fans that his mind was still clear and strong.

“I’m 20 years older than Bernie. I have all my marbles. I could run for office if I wanted to. So I don’t think age — it really doesn’t matter, except for his experience and the years he’s put in.” 94-year-old Dick Van Dyke on Bernie Sanders 👏 pic.twitter.com/UHAsWeWiyn— Sara Pearl (@skenigsberg) February 22, 2020
It's astonishing to note that he has been a smoker for most of his life, and only got serious about quitting after the year 2000. Daily Mail reported that Van Dyke was recently spotted in Malibu around 6 months ago casually picking up some groceries and a smoothie. “At his age, you would assume he would have an assistant or helper running around,” an eyewitness said. “But no, he looks determined to do it all, and with a smile on his face. After he was done grocery shopping at Ralph’s, he paid a visit to the Vitamin Barn in Malibu and came out with some type of green juice, probably packed full of healthy fruits and veggies. He was sort of singing to himself as he walked out, it was cute,” the eyewitness explained.
The veteran actor first got married way back in 1948 to Margie Willett and they divorced in 1984 after nearly 40 years together. He recently got married again in 2012 to a much younger woman, makeup artist Arlene Silver. He said: “one of the smartest moves I’ve ever made. She’s very mature for her age, and I’m very immature for my age, so it’s about right!”
