Ryan Murphy has revealed that the title of the ninth season of the show is 'American Horror Story:1984' and dropped a terrifying teaser trailer!
Is it Halloween yet? Because it sure feels like a merry good time for horror fans! Ryan Murphy has FINALLY ditched his silence and revealed the theme of the NINTH season of American Horror Story, the longest running horror anthology ever, and it looks like it was worth the wait! Now, if you are a longtime fan of the show like me, you'd agree when I say that the last couple of seasons of AHS weren't THAT good and felt like a drag, especially the endings. The last season Apocalypse sure created a hype with the Coven and Murder House reunion and queen Jessica returning for a cameo but well, it could have been much better...
Still, there's no denying the fact that American Horror Story is one of the most intriguing horror shows out there, and this time, creator Ryan Murphy has decided to combine the brilliant character portrayal of AHS with the fear the iconic slasher heroes created in the 80s. The ninth season of the show is confirmed to have a SLASHER theme and fans couldn't be any more thrilled! The first teaser trailer has also been unveiled by Murphy and damn, is it just me or it looks a LOT like Friday the 13th?
"AHS SEASON 9 is called..." Ryan teased in the caption along with the small trailer he shared on his Instagram. The trailer opens up with a woman running for her life, screaming, in the woods while a killer, who looks a lot like sack-Jason, can be seen following her with a machete. At one point in the teaser, the camera zooms up on the slasher and we see that the killer has really long blonde hair! Emma Roberts, is that you?
So far, Emma and American-British freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy are the only ones who have been confirmed by Murphy to return for the upcoming season. "That special moment when you realize you have an Olympic medal AND will be playing Emma Roberts’ boyfriend on “American Horror Story” Season 9," Murphy wrote along with a shirtless picture of Gus assuring fans that Emma Roberts is coming back to the show and Gus is playing her boo.
However, fan favorite Evan Peters has revealed that he will not be returning to American Horror Story, at least for this season. In an interview with GQ, Peters said that he wasn't feeling up to doing another American Horror Story season when asked about the strong characters he has played so far in the franchise, "Yeah, I'm not doing it anymore. I just made a decision. I said to myself, "I can't do it anymore." It's not me. It's not who I am! I'm goofy, I'm silly, I like to have fun. I don't like to yell and scream. I actually hate it."
"I think it's disgusting and really awful, and it's been a challenge for me. Horror Story sort of demanded that of me...It's hurting my soul and Evan as a person. There's this massive amount of rage that's been called upon from me, and the emotional stuff that's been called on me for Pose has been heartbreaking, and I'm sick. I don't feel good," Peters added revealing how much the show is impacting him in real life. "It's just exhausting. It's really mentally draining, and you don't want to go to those places ever in your life. And so you have to go there for the scenes, and it ends up integrating it somehow into your life. You're in traffic and you find yourself screaming and you're like, What the hell? This isn't who I am. I fight really hard to combat that and make sure that I'm watching comedies and hanging out with my fiancée and chilling with friends and watching movies." Considering how the season has a slasher theme, it is going to have a lot of blood and gore, which explains why Peters decided to sit this one out.
But, Sarah Paulson, Murphy's favorite, who has also played a role in every season, is expected to return. "I have found a home in the sense that I work for a person who sees me completely, knows my strengths and weaknesses, knows how to push me and keeps throwing me the ball," Paulson spoke about continuing to work with Murphy. "Why would you leave something that works? This idea of jumping off one thing just to be available in case something great comes by, that’s like leaving your wonderful mate because you think maybe someone more interesting is out there," she added.
