According to Disney, the film will pick up several years after Maleficent and will "continue to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen".
Ever since fans got to know that Angelina Jolie will return as the Mistress of Evil for Maleficent sequel, we have been eagerly awaiting to see what's in store this time. And not too long ago, fans were treated with the first footage of the movie that was shown at the CinemaCon. However, it was never made public. But this, we finally have the first teaser and it is dark, gripping and intense. As reported by ScreenRant.
According to Disney, the film will pick up several years after the original and will "continue to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen". The teaser has got everything you would have expected -- stunning visuals, those signature epic horns, and most importantly, that laughter. That evil Maleficent laughter as the cover of the song, "Season of the Witch," plays in the background.
Now we won't spoil it for you because the real fun lies in watching the teaser. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, the sequel to Maleficent, brings back Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning while new cast members include Michelle Pfieffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein and Robert Lindsay.
The official synopsis of the upcoming Disney movie reads: "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora."
"The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within," it added.
Fanning had earlier spoken about the divide between Maleficent and Aurora. She said, "Aurora and Maleficent love each other so much. But there is a divide between them. Maleficent is still a little wary of the humans, and Aurora is dealing with the burden of coming into this new life to be this cookie-cutter royal, which is not what Aurora is." As reported by ComicBook.
The film is directed by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales filmmaker Joachim Ronning. He has replaced Robert Stromberg, who directed the first movie. The film wrapped production last August. And if you'd remember, the sequel was pushed six months ahead of its release date to October 18 this year.
Maleficent raked in a total of $241 million at the domestic box office, taking its total worldwide collection $758 million. The Mistress Of Evil will be the fourth live-action adaptation on Disney's releases this year. The other three movies are Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
Disney has been giving its fans quite a lot of live-action movies in the recent past, be it Tim Burton’s $1 billion-plus-grosser Alice in Wonderland or Cinderella ($543m), The Jungle Book ($966m), even Emma Watson-led Beauty and the Beast ($1.26 billion). But here's a fun fact -- Maleficent was also one of them and it was this movie that is often said to have started this flurry of Disney live-action adaptions.
