Supernatural's Jensen Ackles Is The New Bruce Wayne In 'Batman: The Long Halloween'

The voice cast for Warner Bros. Animation's Batman: The Long Halloween is finally out.

Batman: The Long Halloween has been hyped for quite a while by Warner Bros. It looks like we have finally received confirmed news regarding the cast for the upcoming animated movie. Bruce Wayne will be voiced by none other than Supernatural star Jensen Ackles. The new film will continue the series of Warner Bros. Animation's critically-acclaimed DC Universe Animated Original Movies series, reports Screenrant. The first one was back in 2007 with Superman: Doomsday, and the series also features other popular films like  Batman: Under the Red Hood, The Dark Knight Returns, and Batman: The Killing Joke. With regards to The Long Halloween, they have decided to make it a two-part movie, with the first one up and coming this summer.

Similar to many of the previous DC Universe Animated Original Movies, Batman: The Long Halloween will follow a previously updated DC Comics arc. In this particular case, we are going to get engrossed with the famous Long Halloween series that ran from 1996-97. This comic is generally looked at as one of the best and most influential Batman storylines. Other notable arcs that were later adapted onto visual media are The Killing Joke, The Dark Knight Returns, and Batman: Year One.  It so happened that The Long Halloween series was one of the primary inspirations for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. The two have several details that interlink, including Harvey Dent's hero-to-villain transition and the interlocking plots of escalating mob activity in Gotham City, as well as a serial killer on the loose.

This is great news for Batman fans all around as this upcoming release could have a strong impact on Matt Reeves' cinematic feature The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. Since The Long Halloween film has been adapted as a two-part animated special, the cast list was the first thing on people's minds. Thanks to the Hollywood Reporter, we confirmed that Ackles, fresh from the culmination of the Supernatural franchise will lead the ensemble as Bruce Wayne. He makes his return to DC animation once again following his voicing of Jason Todd in the highly praised Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Aside from him, we have the late Naya Rivera, who met her demise in July 2020 in an unfortunate drowning accident, voicing Selina Kyle/Catwoman. The rest of the cast has Josh Duhamel as Harvey Dent, Billy Burke as James Gordon, Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone, David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man, Troy Baker as Joker, Amy Landecker as Barbara Gordon, Julie Nathanson as Gilda Dent, Jack Quaid as Alberto, Fred Tatasciore as Solomon Grundy, and Alastair Duncan as Alfred.

Part one of the upcoming film is ready to release video their direct-to-video mode, which has been met with mixed reactions of late. Despite that, the DC Universe Animated Original Movies have certainly become popular with the masses and enjoyed quite a bit of praise from critics too. These animated films tend to have a darker, and more adult-oriented tone, which has worked well for the stories chosen so far.
