This Edgar Allan Poe-Inspired Cake Has A Beating Jello Heart And It's Creepily Realistic

The cake is replete with blood and looks eerily close to an actual heart. To top it all off, the cake is placed on top of a copy of Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, who lived a brief 40-year-life and yet he is regarded as one of the most, if not the most, influential authors in the United States literary history. Poe, the legendary writer, is best known for poetry and short stories which often fuses elements of mystery with a deep sense of macabre that often borders on the creepy. He is known for bringing short stories to the mainstream and is also considered to be the inventor of the detective fiction genre. Besides this, he is even credited for laying the groundwork for the emergence of science fiction as an independent genre of its own. All in all, Poe became the first-ever American writer to make a living through writing alone.

One of his most notable works is The Tell-Tale Heart, published in 1843 where the unnamed protagonist/narrator tries to convince the readers of their sanity. While attempting to do so,  the narrator also describes the murder of an elderly man with a filmy ‚Äúvulture-eye" in grisly detail. The story involves careful calculation, an attempt to commit the perfect crime, and the complete dismemberment and hiding of the body under the floorboards of a house. Although the narrator seems to have gotten away with the crime, his conscience is teeming with guilt, haunted with mentally disturbing imagery which leads to them hearing a thumping noise from under the floorboards, which they think is the dead man's beating heart.

While hearing about the twisted sense of thought is one thing, imagine actually being able to see the beating heart. That's pretty much what this guy's mom has done - created a beautiful beating heart cake out of jello for a valentine's day party at his office. The cake is replete with blood and looks eerily close to an actual beautiful heart. To top it all off, the cake is placed on top of a copy of Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart. A Youtuber by the name Alasdair Martin put up the video of the heart on his channel with the description:  "All cake, all edible, all pumpy. My mom whipped this together for the office valentines day party. Do you have the heart to like it?"

The mom, named Jane M, is a dessert queen who comes up with some of the most original cakes out there and shares the pictures of her creation on her Instagram page, @fancifulcakes. Some of the other cakes she had conjured up include a portrait of Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Harry PotterOlaf from the hit animated movie franchise, Frozen, and Kevin from Despicable Me series.

This isn't the only heart-shaped cake out there. Recently Bored Panda reported about a pastry chef by the name Creative Mom CZ, who created a human heart replica in cake form. The cake was so immaculate and intricate that it featured pulmonary veins, atrium valves covered in a delicious layer of chocolate with edible red paint acting as blood.
