"I hope they get to me before I’m a corpse," Midler joked when asked about her possible involvement in the planned 'Hocus Pocus' sequel.
Halloween may be over but the OG witches are just getting ready to board their brooms once again! Hocus Pocus fans were sent into a frenzy late last month when reports surfaced about Disney Plus supposedly cooking up a sequel to the cult classic 1993 film. Now, the original cast members Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have added 2 drops oil of boil and a dab of Newt saliva into the cauldron with hints about their possible involvement in the upcoming project.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at Midler's annual Hulaween gala in New York City Thursday night, the actress revealed that she's game to revive her iconic character if Disney offers her the role. "Oh my goodness me. Oh, I hope they get to me before I’m a corpse," the 73-year-old joked. Midler added, "We wanna fly again. I hope Disney+ is a big success and I hope we get to do it, because [Winifred] is, of course, one of my favorite characters... I can’t wait to read the script. We’re gonna see what happens."
Midler also revealed that she and her Hocus Pocus co-stars have often found themselves talking about the possibility of a sequel whenever they meet. "We actually talk about it whenever we see each other. We laugh, we say, 'Oh, wouldn't it be great if?' Because all of us had pretty much the same experience on it," she said. Najimy, who played Mary Sanderson in the iconic film, was also in attendance at the gala and opened up about whether she'd be interested in joining the cast of the new Disney+ streaming service's Hocus Pocus 2.
"I heard about it online the same time as [everyone else]. But here's the honest answer: Sarah and Bette and I all have a million projects and things that we're into, so I don't know if they're gonna offer us [roles]. I don't know if the worlds are going to collide so that we could all three do it at the same time. But I'm happy that it's happening because the fans are really rabid and they really want it. [And] if we're not all available to star in it, I think it would be so great to do a cameo. I think that'd be really fun," said Najimy.
Meanwhile, Sarah Jessica Parker, who played the third Sanderson sister Sarah, stroked the flame a bit more via an Instagram post celebrating the fan-favorite movie. When one of her followers commented with a question about the potential for a sequel, the 54-year-old replied, "We have all said yes. Now we wait." If that's not a confirmation that all three ladies are going to grace us in their Hocus Pocus roles once again, I don't know what is.
