The man found that the rugs had been vacuumed and everything was put neatly away. He also discovered that a door he usually leaves open had been firmly shut.
Having someone break into your house is one of the worst nightmares ever. Apart from the rude intrusion of our privacy, the fear of being robbed blind of all our valuable possessions is a valid concern that haunts us. And considering the many hours of the day away from our homes, at work, running errands, and in other engagements, it is possible for the someone to just break into our homes and do as they please, no matter what security measures we've taken. However, a man in Massachusetts now has a very strange home intrusion story to tell where the intruder kinda sorta did him a favor.
When Nate Roman came back home with his son after work, he quickly realized that something wasn't right. Naturally, his first thought was that perhaps someone broke into his house and robbed him. However, upon further inspection, Roman discovered that nothing was actually missing from his house. On the other hand, it appeared as though the intruder had cleaned his house to utter perfection.
Feel free to break in and clean my house anytime you want!! https://t.co/uxhz8gXWIb

Roman, who lives in a single-family home in Marlborough, Massachusetts, left for work on the morning of May 15. But when he returned to his house after picking up his son, he discovered that his door was unlocked. Speaking to CNN, the bewildered man said, "[My son said], 'Dad! The door is unlocked.' Which I have done once every blue moon and didn't think anything of it. But when we walked in immediately there was a vibe that something was wrong in the house."
"You could smell the #cleaning #chemicals," he told WBZ-TV. "I could tell something was wrong so I started looking around the house, and I found that my #bathrooms had been #cleaned."#weirdnews #US #Massachusettshttps://t.co/y8vToxd99K via @upi

He noticed that a door that he normally keeps open in his house had been firmly shut and quickly realized that someone had been in his house while he was away. He further inspected the house and discovered that his son's room, which had been a complete wreck when he left, was now pristinely neat. So was Roman's bedroom. "Rugs were vacuumed, everything was neat and put away," he revealed.
Rarely do break-ins end with a happy surprise. But for one Massachusetts man, he got his bathroom cleaned for free after someone broke into his house — and some toilet paper roses as souvenirs. https://t.co/T7mLEYnX84

Utterly baffled by it all, he quickly informed the police about the incident and they took the strange break-in very seriously. They did a sweep of the complete house to make sure the intruder wasn't still and the house and spoke with the neighbors about whether any of them had seen anything strange that day. However, no one had witnessed any suspicious activity near Roman's house and the police were unable to determine any suspects in the case.
How would you feel if someone broke into your house, but CLEANED it... Honestly, I don't think that could ever happen in New York 😂—Breanne https://t.co/U3LFwYCQLo

"No crime happened, nothing was missing or damaged, so the police have very little to go on," said Roman. Unfortunately, the security system had also not been set that day and cameras that would've been activated had the alarm gone off, were also unable to capture images of the person who broke in. However, the time stamp on the door did reveal that the intruder was inside the house for about 90 minutes during which they might've found the need to clean up the place for Roman and his son.
The security system shows the intruder broke into the man’s house and cleaned it for 90 minutes. The culprit didn’t steal anything. https://t.co/Ue5rXsu7rI

Interestingly, in addition to the vacuumed floors and cleaned rooms, Roman also found that the intruder had crafted ornate origami roses on the toilet paper rolls in his bathrooms. This makes him suspect that it might've been the work of a professional and the best theory he can come up with at this point is that a cleaning crew might've come to the wrong address by mistake. However, seeing as how they'd left the kitchen untouched, the theory is a bit shaky. Roman has changed the locks of his since the incident and admits that he is still a bit cautious when opening cabinets, just in case the intruder left behind something unexpected.
Mistaken cleaning lady is one explanation. I would've gone with female serial killer myself. I mean bleach you know. I would've luminoled the entire house. Especially the attic.

Speaking to the Boston Globe, Roman said that he found the whole thing "weird and creepy." Although it has become a somewhat funny story now, he admits that it didn't feel that way at first. "It's funny now but didn't feel funny at the time. I kept the toilet paper roses as souvenirs." Marlborough Police Sergeant Daniel Campbell revealed that the police department hasn't heard of any similar instances. "We have not received any reports similar to this in other locations, and we have no suspects at this time," he said.
