Burger King will have Birds of Prey-themed "breakup boxes" in various outlets across New York, San Francisco, Boston, and Los Angeles. If you can bring a printed photo of your ex and dump it in one of these boxes, you will receive a free Whopper.
Thinking about your ex is something you really don't want to do, even more so on Valentine's Day. But, Burger King wants you to do exactly that — dig deep into your social media feed to unearth a photo of your ex.
If you succeed in your endeavor and can print out the picture, the burger joint is going to give away a delicious Whopper for free. Now, you must be wondering what the point this bizarre campaign must be. Well, my friends, there is.
Burger King has partnered with Warner Bros. to promote its upcoming movie, Birds of Prey, featuring Margot Robbie as Batman's arch-nemesis Harley Quinn. Now, if you're aware of the plot of the critically-panned supervillain ensemble movie Suicide Squad, Quinn used to be the Joker's muse. However, things have gone pretty badly between the lovers since then, and are continuing into the latest movie. According to its premise, Quinn has had an explosive breakup with the Joker and is on the run after the jilted madman puts a target on her back. The campaign is on for this exact reason —to show your solidarity for the now broken-up and endangered Quinn and also to getting rid of all things belonging to your ex, of course.
As per the campaign, Burger King will have Birds of Prey-themed "breakup boxes" in various outlets across New York, San Francisco, Boston, and Los Angeles. If you can bring a printed photo of your ex and dump it in one of these boxes, you will receive a free Whopper. The campaign doesn't just end with photos either. If you live anywhere in New York City and have any stuffed animals, letters, of pieces of clothing belonging to your ex, you can trade them away for a burger, and finally, put the damn thing to good use.
Don't get disheartened if you're interested but don't want to reveal one of your pictures to an employee. Burger King is launching an in-app quiz with five questions. If you can answer four out of the five questions correctly, that Whopper can still be yours.
