'Christmas Is So Magical': Mom's Hilarious Holiday Mishap Has Everyone In Splits

Mary Katherine Backstrom narrated how her enthusiasm for the spirit of Christmas led to her hugging a total stranger.

The holiday spirit is contagious and the feel-good vibes that come with Christmas. Although we catch it sometime around Thanksgiving it just keeps growing in power till the end of the year. Some of us are so intoxicated by this wonderful feeling that we get too carried away by it. This is exactly what happened to this woman from Florida. Many of you may already know Mary Katherine Backstrom as the blogger and author of Mom Babble. She got so wrapped up in the "holiday magic" that it led to a very hilarious mix-up that had the internet in splits.

Backstrom took to Facebook Live to narrate the hysterical incident. She was in her car and clearly looked flustered from what had just happened. A lot of little moments took place before it culminated into what she refers to as her "embarrassing moment." She starts by explaining how she was at Wawa, the gas station and convenience store. She was in a great mood and feeling generous thanks to the holiday spirit and decided to pay it forward. Backstrom offered to pay for the ginger ale the person next to her in the line had purchased. She wanted to do her bit and called it a "precious moment."

She then left the store giddy with holiday spirit and "still in this mindset that the holidays are so magical." She walked towards her car and saw that there was a man wiping, what she presumed, was her windshield. Backstrom was overcome with gratitude that her karma was in effect so quickly. Between giggles and guffaws, she managed to narrate how she approached the man and gave him a hug and said, "This is my favorite part of humanity! I love Christmas so much, thank you for doing this." She then realized that it was not her car. "He was parked directly in front of me and he was cleaning his own windshield."

Backstrom realized her blunder and just removed herself from the awkward situation and got into her car to drive away to another parking spot where she could do the Facebook live. "I just had to share this with y’all because I’m out here hugging strangers at the gas station because the magic of Christmas is so powerful," she said as she wiped tears from laughing so hard. "Why did that man let me hug him?" she asked while laughing so hard that she was about to "pee her pants." Her concerned mother was watching the live and asked her what she had in her mug. Backstrom assured her mother it was just coke. But pretty sure there was a pinch of holiday high in there too.

The video has since been watched 97 million times and has over 57k comments with people telling Backstrom that they were all also laughing uncontrollably because of what she had just narrated. Cesar Martin Redi commented This is one of the best things I've seen in a while. I can't stop laughing. It's actually something I could do myself...I understand her. Vanessa Ver Bridge Coryea wrote, I was having a rough day with all this COVID-19 stuff and just rewatched this and you changed my day ….again! Thank you for sharing and for loving humanity!!
