'Constantine 2' Is Officially In The Works, Says Keanu Reeves' Co-Star

Peter Stormare, who starred in the 2005 cult classic, revealed that the sequel is happening.

When Constantine first released in 2005, fans saw it as a stylish, noir-themed supernatural flick inspired by a character from DC Comics. The movie was a modest commercial success, but later on, earned cult status over the years. It has been a decade and a half since the original movie released and since then, people are demanding a sequel because let's be honest, Keanu Reeves was perfect as Constantine. Finally, it looks like all the desperate cries of the fans have been answered as Constantine 2 is officially happening.

According to a report by ScreenRant, Peter Stormare took to Instagram to tease about a possible sequel and it has sent all the fans into a frenzy. Stormare, who played the memorable role of Satan in the Francis Lawrence-directed movie, shared a picture from the 2005 movie and captioned it, writing, "Sequel in the Works.”

Based on the DC comics Hellblazer and the character John Constantine, Constantine stars Keanu Reeves as an ordinary man who possesses an extraordinary gift that he can use to save the planet from falling prey to evil. Most of us are unknown that our realm is crowded with the presence of good and evil spirits that walk among us disguised as humans. Constantine is blessed with the ability to see these spirits for who they are, but this power seems too much for him to bear, and as a result of which he tries to take his own life as a teenager.

He is saved from his death and now he must atone for his sins by acting as a guardian in the middle ground of heaven and hell. He goes on to become a detective in the occult and paranormal. While he is on his quest, Constantine comes to know of Angela Dodson, a police detective who becomes aware of Constantine's unique ability while investigating the death of her sister. Together, they face the world of the unknown, and unexpected events make them join forces in a desperate attempt to save the world.

Prior to this announcement by Stormare, Reeves has revealed that he is excited to return for his role. In an interview with Variety last year, he said, "I’ve always wanted to play John Constantine again. I just love that world, too, and I love that character. I just had a blast playing the character.” Additionally, according to a report by Bloody Disgusting, J.J. Abrams has been working on a Justice League Dark series for HBO Max, and it is rumored to feature the character of John Constantine. There have also been rumors that Abrams has been working on a solo Constantine movie, but take this info with a pinch of salt since they are unconfirmed.

2005's Constantine has amassed a huge fan following over the years, and given the fact that Reeves is at the peak of his career right now, thanks to the John Wick movies, it would make sense that DC would like to revisit this iteration rather than rebooting it completely. Apart from Keanu Reeves, the 2005 movie stars Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, and Gavin Rossdale. Stormare makes an appearance during the end of the movie as the Devil, and it was definitely one of the biggest highlights. Let's just hope that we will get to see Reeves donning his Constantine suit once again.
