'Absolutely terrifying' is a mere understatement to describe Pennywise. The clown who scared us senseless in 'It' is now back again to haunt our nightmares. And a new footage from 'It: Chapter 2' that was released on April 3, is a testament to the menacing clown's scare tactics that come across a classic Stephen King masterpiece, reports Comic Book.
In 2017, when the news of an 'It' movie started making the rounds of social media, fans were always apprehensive to know how the story would come about and how the iconic character of Pennywise could be brought to life.
Especially for the old school horror fans who had seen the story being adapted into a miniseries in 1990, it was always going to be a gamble for the production house and the filmmaker to execute the project perfectly.
However, be that as it may, when the first chapter of Andy Muschietti’s IT adaptation did release, 'It' not only became a box office success but it also ended up being one of the biggest movies of the year, raking in over $700 million worldwide.
As the expectations for its sequel are sky high, fans were in for a surprise at CinemaCon when the first official footage of "It: Chapter 2" debuted. This is considering the fact that there is indeed very little promotion happening for Chapter 2, as compared to the first installment.
With the new footage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, fans got the first look at the IT chapter 2. And if reports are to be believed, the footage had absolutely terrified the audience and boy, isn't that what we are looking for?
Apparently, the event took place after director Andy Muschietti walked onstage. Interestingly enough, there were a large number of red balloons that accompanied him and the significance of it is definitely something we don't need to explain! Following this, he started talking about the main cast and introducing them to the stage – the young and adult members of the Losers Club.
Okay. Enough beating around the bush and lets cut the chase. “You know what they say about Derry – no one who dies here ever really dies.” This is a line from 'It Chapter 2' footage and this tells us a lot about what to expect, reports Screengeek.
The footage has been described as being both gory and bloody. It starts with Jessica Chastain playing an older Beverly Marsh. And we see the creepy town of Derry, where she lurks around her childhood apartment.
She bumps into an elderly woman who informs her about her father's death. And this is when an ominous looking figure can be spotted in the background, and as the two women have no clue what's happening, a figure is being dragged.
Beverly then notices a circle of flies around the old woman, followed by an odd smell. Meanwhile, she also notices Pennywise in one of the old lady’s photos – it seems as if he took the identity of her father. The old lady then rips apart her clothes and follows, shouting, “I was always a daddy’s girl. Are you a daddy’s girl, Beverly?”
The trailer also reveals the first look at Pennywise and the adult members of the Losers Club. And obviously, what's an 'It' movie without blood, gore and a lot of red balloons. But what really shook us was when finally, Pennywise concludes the trailer with a terrifying “Hello!”
Although the footage was only released at CinemaCon, it is expected to go online soon. And it is only a matter of time before we get to see Pennywise and the members of the Losers Club.
Long story short, this is what 'It' is all about -- “Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, IT: Chapter Two brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.”
IT: Chapter 2 hits theaters on September 6, 2019.
