"Wait...today 20 years?!? I literally just realized today is the actual anniversary. Well, 20 years later I may be even more proud of this film. Not very often do you get to be a part of cinema, that holds the test of time. @rogerkumble you are the most wonderfully disturbed person I know and I love you. @reesewitherspoon @selmablair @ryanphillippe (and not pictured @seanpthomas @vancityjax) you are even better actors and better people then you were then. Forget me- everybody loves this film and I intend to keep it that way. #cruelintentions#cruelinventions" Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is now 41-years-old, shared a throwback photo on her Facebook.
The celebrations for the 20th anniversary are not limited to the re-release. Cruel Intentions is also coming to Broadway and Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical is set to release later this month. The movie soundtracks will also be available on vinyl in a special 20th Anniversary edition. And, there's more! Cruel Intentions is also getting a book called Best. Movie. Year. Ever.: How 1999 Blew Up the Big Screen by Brian Raftery and will be released in April.
The book will feature new interviews with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair who will give us a sneak peek into what went down behind the scenes of the movie. Writer-director Roger Kumble will also talk about the making of the iconic movie which took the world by storm. "Two wealthy, manipulative teenage stepsiblings from Manhattan’s upper-crust, conspire in Cruel Intentions, a wickedly entertaining tale of seduction and betrayal. The stakes are high when the duo agrees upon a deliciously diabolical wager of sexual conquest without consequences. The pawns? The naïve Cecile Caldwell (Selma Blair) and the virginal Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) ..." reads the official synopsis of the movie.
"It’s summer break, and Kathryn has been dumped by her beau, Court Reynolds, for the innocent Cecile. Desperate to get even, Kathryn challenges Sebastian to ruin Cecile by deflowering her and turning her into a tramp—thus humiliating Court by delivering Cecile to him as damaged goods. Sebastian has pretty much ‘had’ all of the girls in New York City up to this point, and he’s gotten a bit bored of it all. Though this is too easy a conquest for him, he obliges. He sets his sights on a greater challenge—the new headmaster’s daughter, Annette, who recently wrote an article in a magazine about how she intends to stay pure until she marries her boyfriend. Sebastian bets Kathryn that he can seduce the chaste and pristine Annette before school begins in the fall. Kathryn thinks this feat impossible and quickly agrees to the wager. The stakes: if Sebastian succeeds, Kathryn must give him a night of unbridled biblical pleasure, something he’s wanted since their parents got married. If he fails, he must forfeit his priceless 1956 Jaguar to Kathryn and suffer the shame of defeat."
In case you haven't watched the movie, you really are missing out on a lot of drama!
