'Labyrinth 2' Could Bring Back David Bowie Via CGI, Reports Say

Do you think David Bowie would have liked this idea?

Right now, all of us are collectively going through a very difficult time in our lives, and during such trying times, any piece of good news can uplift our spirits and make our day better. It has been quite a while since the cult classic movie Labyrinth starring David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly, and a whole host of creatures hit the screens. Recently, we reported that the Labyrinth was getting a sequel.

When I first heard about the sequel, my first thought was how are they going to go forward with the role of Jareth the Goblin King without David Bowie. According to a report by Dread Central and We Got This Covered, Scott Derickson might make it possible to see the return of Jennifer Connelly as the mother of the new heroine and from what we know, the sequel will follow a basic story similar to Labyrinth.

There is no denying that Bowie gave a magical performance as Jareth the Goblin King and he is the reason why the original is remembered so well among the audience. No matter how good the sequel is, his absence will be strongly felt. Some sources close to the publication reported that there is a way Bowie might be back for the sequel with a cameo appearance via CGI.

Posthumous performances are not exactly uncommon these days, the most recent one being Carrie Fisher who 'reprised' the role of Princess Leia three years after her death in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Similar to Fisher's role, Bowie's CGI comeback also depends on his estate granting permission. Bowie's son, Duncan Jones is a director who knows how to use heavy CGI in his movies, so he is the best person to know the limitations and capabilities of the software which will help him make an informed decision.

Now, the question is, would Bowie himself have wanted it? You must know that he was pretty welcoming towards the idea of artificial representation of himself so we guess he will be happy to see himself in a CGI version.

For those who don't know, Labyrinth tells the story of Sarah who wishes away her little brother Toby into a magical maze. As her wish comes true, a Goblin King named Jareth takes her, who gives Sarah 13 hours to save her brother. The movie was directed by Jim Henson and it was his last feature movie before his death in 1990. When the movie released, it was not a hit between audience and critics alike, but slowly over the years, the movie has developed a devoted army of fans.

While the movie was not a hit upon its release, the movie remains a classic because of its use of practical effects, detailed puppetry, and iconic soundtrack. What do you guys think about it? Let us know in the comments.
