Dany went from a woman who prided herself on saving the downtrodden to ultimately becoming the one who kills them en masse.
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8.
And Game Of Thrones finally comes to an end. As Tyrion Lannister says, "No one is very happy, which means it's a good compromise," -- it really rings true for the epic fantasy show as well. There was one set of fans who were absolutely fuming with the way Season 8 panned out, while there was another section who did not really love the ending but appreciated the fact that the show offered them 8 years of amazing visuals, storytelling, and characters that will be remembered in TV history forever.
However, let's focus on the final episode of Game of Thrones that has come under severe fire for not keeping up with the hype. It all went downhill for the show after "The Long Night" episode where we witnessed the death of The Night King. All it took was a stab from Arya and 8 seasons of building up the "Winter is Coming" stuff was puff, gone!
Fans were livid with how the showrunners went ahead with very rudimentary death scenes including that of The Night King, Cersei Lannister, Jamie Lannister and most importantly, Daenerys Targaryen. And yet again, Khaleesi, the Mother of Dragons, with an Army that could take over any land in Westeros, but all it took for her death was one simple stab to the heart.
Daenerys’ descent from Breaker of Chains to Mad Queen could have been one of the best plot twists in recent television history, however, the show had completely squandered it. And this was quite evident in the way fans reacted to the death of Emilia Clarke's character. As reported by Time.
The writers had also messed up the character arc of Dany as it all seemed too hurried, especially the shift in the way she took over King's Landing. All it took was a couple of scenes with Lord Varys and Jon Snow and BAM...she killed over thousands at King's Landing all within an episode. Dany went from a woman who prided herself on saving the downtrodden to ultimately becoming the one who kills them.
It was not just the fans who thought the writing had gone awry, but even Emilia Clarke was flabbergasted with the way things took an unexpected turn for her character. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said: "What, what, what, WHAT!?” Clarke said while learning about Dany becoming the series’ ultimate villain.
“Because it comes out of f**king nowhere. I’m flabbergasted. Absolutely never saw that coming. There’s so much she’s taken on in her duty in life to rectify, so much she’s seen and witnessed and been through and lost and suffered and hurt. Suddenly these people are turning around and saying, ‘We don’t accept you."
“But she’s too far down the line. She’s killed so many people already. I can’t turn this ship around. It’s too much.” However, Emilia said that she accepted Dany's death was always on the cards. “I stand by Daenerys. I stand by her! I can’t not,” Clarke concluded.
Fans have been reacting to Dany's fate as they took to Twitter and expressed their dissatisfaction with the ending. Here are some of the reactions.

Well, all said and done, it is over. Now we don't know if you loved the show or hated the show, but one thing is certain -- it was truly a memorable series that had us hooked onto our TVs for over 8 years. So what next after Game of Thrones? Will we ever get a show as talked about as Game of Thrones? Only time will tell.
