Disney confirmed that there will be at least 3 years gap between "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," which hits theaters on December 20 this year, and the next film, which will release on December 16, 2022. This will be followed by two more "Star Wars" films in December of 2024 and 2026. The new schedule also incorporates four Avatar sequels in between the Star Wars movies.

As you would know, the first Avatar movie created history becoming the highest grossing movie of all time with $2.8 billion box office collection. Hence, the excitement for the second installment is sky high.

Although it was earlier anticipated that the movie will release on December 18, 2020, it was later pushed to December 17, 2021. It will now release alternatively every year with "Star Wars," releasing films in December of 2023, 2025 and 2027.

Even as many believe "Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker" may be the end of the space saga, but it is now confirmed that Disney is bringing back the Force to entertain us during the holiday season and for a long time.

The trio of Star Wars films will come out every other year starting in December 2022. However, we do not know if the future projects will be developed by Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, or if it will be taken over by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Ever since Disney confirmed the news, social media users have been ecstatic on seeing movies from their favorite franchise hitting the screens every Christmas till 2027.  A Twitter user said: "I'm gonna be real I really liked the first Avatar. Saw it in 3D at the IMAX. Over time I think people have forgotten how great it was. If it's just as good, it's worth the wait. Do you James." Meanwhile, another added: "They realized they’re going to half to either write an actual plotline or invent 4D technology to market it with."
