Benedict Cumberbatch Visits A Comic Store As Doctor Strange In Fun Footage

Fans were taken by surprise when they saw Doctor Strange himself at the bookstore.

It was 2016 and probably the best time to be alive. People could be around each other and not worry about catching a highly contagious virus. Benedict Cumberbatch, the beloved actor who played the character Doctor Strange, was in New York City and decided to wander into JHU Comic Books while wearing his full Doctor Strange costume. Obviously, he surprised everyone present at the store.

According to a report by TMZ, Scott Derrickson, who directed the movie posted a brand-new clip of Cumberbatch popping into a comic book store. Derrickson captioned the video writing, "Never before shown moment. While shooting in Manhattan right in front of a comic book store, I spontaneously suggested to Benedict that he go inside and he agreed."

Our favorite superhero had a chat with people and even had a brief conversation with the guy behind the desk, and they were absolutely star-struck. In fact, the nice guy that he is, Cumberbatch was even happy to pose for pictures. One staff member in the store held up a Doctor Strange comics and compared how similar our live-action hero is, and Cumberbatch jokingly asked if he can have a job in the store in case the movie bombs at the box office.

In the video, he can be heard saying, "It’s lovely to come off the shelf and say hello. If the movie doesn’t work out and it bombs, can I come and work with you guys, at least?” Luckily for fans, Doctor Strange went on to be a blockbuster hit. The movie grossed $677.7 million and the sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release on March 2022, but it's doubtful if it will release around that time due to the pandemic.

In January, Derrickson announced he was quitting the film’s anticipated sequel due to “creative differences” with Marvel, but he will act as an executive producer. He tweeted, "Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP."

According to Variety, Marvel also released a statement, saying, "Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. ‘We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”Derrickson's departure from the project comes as a surprise as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness became one of the most anticipated offerings of Marvel’s Phase Four." According to some sources, it is also Marvel's first 'scary' movie.

He said, "When I came and talked to [Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige] about doing a sequel, I said, ‘I don’t want to do just another sequel. If I’m going to do it, it needs to go into the territory that drew me into the Doctor Strange comics in the first place’ – which is how they dipped into the gothic and the horror and the horrific.” Apart from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, other anticipated movies are Black Widow, The Eternals, which are both set for release later this year, and Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.
