Starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, 'Dumb and Dumber' is one such comedy classic that still manages to make us laugh every single time we watch it.
Twenty-five years ago, Dumb and Dumber made Jim Carrey famous overnight. Before this, he was more or less unknown until he starred in three 1994 movies that include Ace Venture: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. But it was Dumb and Dumber that is still considered one of his best comedy movies of all time, thanks to the epic performances from Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey.
The movie was directed by Peter Farrelly and it came out in 1994 when movies like The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and The Lion King had released in the same year. But it was comedy movies that stood apart. Jim Carrey is synonymous with comedy and his career started ascending when he signed on for Farrelly’s debut and the rest is history.
But, for a time, he was struggling to find his career to fly off. The same was the case with Dumb and Dumber. The script was passed on to multiple actors but their agents kept brushing it off. After changing the title temporarily to A Power Tool Is Not a Toy, people started to read.
But before they knew it, the legendary duo of Carrey and Daniels were ready. The studio executives were a little apprehensive about Daniels, who until then hadn’t performed a comedy role, but the directing team of Peter and his brother Bobby had their faith in him. The movie followed the story of Lloyd Christmas, who is a limo driver and falls in love with Mary Swanson, who is a client that Llyod drives to the airport.
She accidentally forgets her briefcase and he goes on a cross-country trip in a sheepdog van to Aspen to return it, alongside best friend Harry Dunne.
The movie is now available on Netflix and if you have not watched it yet, what are you waiting for? It's truly one of the best comedy movies ever made and there's a reason why no matter how many times you watch it, Dumb and Dumber is a one-of-a-kind comedy movie.
