Emma Roberts To Star In New Lesbian Vampire Series On Netflix, Here's What We Know

Netflix has ordered 8 episodes with Emma Roberts set to executive produce the series.

Bring out those fangs and sink your teeth into this news as Emma Roberts is all set to star and produce a new YA vampire drama titled First Kill, reported Variety. The one-hour show based on the short story of the same name by Victoria “V.E.” Schwab was published in the Imprint story collection Vampire Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite back in September with Fresh Bite by Natalie C. Parker and Zoraida Córdova. Netflix has ordered eight episodes with Roberts set to executive produce the series.

The eight-episode, one-hour series will be created, written, and executive produced by Schwab, and Felicia D. Henderson will serve as writer and showrunner. The synopsis of the show reads, "When it’s time for teenage vampire Juliette to make her first kill so she can take her place among a powerful vampire family, she sets her sights on a new girl in town named Calliope. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter, from a family of celebrated slayers. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for."

Roberts and Karah Preiss will executive produce under their Belletrist Productions banner. According to an insider, Belletrist outbid nearly two dozen other groups who were competing to gain the rights of the story. First Kill marks the latest literary adaptation for the company which initially started out as a book club founded by Roberts and Preiss. Back in September, it was announced that the company has signed a first-look deal with Hulu which would primarily focus on literary adaptations.

Under this deal, Roberts will also be adapting Carola Lovering’s Tell Me Lies as a television series, reported Deadline. In her personal life, Roberts has a number of reasons to celebrate. She is also set to star with UK comedian Jack Whitehall in the comedy feature Robots which will be directed by Anthony Hines. Recently, Roberts wrapped up her shooting for Tiffany Paulsen’s upcoming Netflix film Holidate, with John Whitesell directing.

Back in August, the actress announced her pregnancy with her boyfriend Garrett Hedlund, reported PEOPLE. The American Horror Story star confirmed the news of her pregnancy by posting a series of pictures on Instagram displaying her baby bump while posing with Hedlund. In one of the pictures, Roberts is seen sitting in front of a sun-drenched window wearing a white bandeau dress, as Hedlund wraps his arms around her. In another picture, she is seen cradling her baby bump. She captioned the picture writing, "Me...and my two favorite guys."

Soon enough, she was flooded with congratulatory messages from fans and well-wishers, including her aunt Julia Roberts who wrote 'Love You' with a kiss-faced emoji. Roberts was previously engaged to American Horror Story co-star Evan Peters and Hedlund was in a five-year relationship with Kirsten Dunst. Back in 2019, in a conversation with Cosmopolitan Magazine, Roberts explained why she wants to keep her love life private.

She said, "I never want to talk about relationships I'm in or that are ending or have ended. It's hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience. Growing up is hard. Sometimes it makes me sad that I can't have a private moment. Because of Twitter and Instagram, there's a whole other element where everybody can comment on what you're doing and no one knows the real story. That's hard."
