Although fans are a bit skeptical of the second installment titled 'Doctor Sleep', overpowering 'The Shining', we are still glad that a sequel is on its way.
'The Shining' has been often touted as one of the best horror movies of all time, and rightly so. Stanley Kubrick directing a film that was written by Stephen King -- it is nothing short of a horror masterpiece. And it's not just us, pretty much all horror buffs -- old school, new gen-- everybody loved the movie!
And when the news of a sequel starting doing the rounds, our happiness knew no bounds. It was needed. And although fans are a bit skeptical of the second installment titled 'Doctor Sleep', overpowering 'The Shining', we are still glad that a sequel is on its way, reports Screengeek.
And what's more, King wrote the sequel to the horror classic and it is now being adapted into a movie. The project is helmed by none other than the creator of The Haunting of Hill House, Mike Flanagan. The book was well-received and fans can't wait to see a movie being made out of it.
Meanwhile, the audience at the CinemaCon were in for a treat when they were shown a new trailer for the film that had footage of an adult Danny Torrance played by Ewan McGregor. Danny can also be seen with Abra Stone, the young psychic girl played by Kyliegh Curran.
But what really turned out to be the highlight of the teaser was the end shot of Danny looking into the mirror as the words REDRUM is written on the glass with the iconic theme of The Shining playing in the background.
Even a scene reminding us of classic opening sequence of The Shining is part of the teaser wherein a car goes through a forest.
A group of people gathered around a campfire could possibly be the tribe of paranormals who use their “shine” to suck the energy from people. A woman can also be seen walking in the woods toward someone while holding a needle behind her back. Fans believe this could be Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), who is the main villain of the film, reports Geektyrant.
Although the official synopsis of the movie is still not out, however, we've got the book one. It reads, "Doctor Sleep takes place several years after the events that took place at the Overlook Hotel. It focuses on Jack's son Danny who is now a middle-aged man. He is still traumatized by what happened at the hotel all those years ago, and he throughout his life has had to deal with anger management and alcoholism issues."
"However, in an effort to get his life back together, he gives up drinking and settles down in a small town in New Hampshire. It is at this point in his life where his psychic abilities start to resurface and he develops a psychic link with a 12-year-old girl named Abra Stone. Turns out this girl's life is being threatened by a tribe of paranormals who suck the energy from people. They are led by a man named Rose the Hat and Danny has to save her from them."
Albeit the footage doesn't reveal much about the plot, but it sure has got us way too excited for the highly-anticipated sequel. Iconic horror writer Stephen King is very much involved in the film production as well, so that's a good thing!
Apart from Ewan Mcgregor, the much-anticipated flick also stars Carl Lumbly as Dick Halloran, Kyleigh Curran as Abra Stone, Alex Essoe as Wendy Torrance, Bruce Greenwood as Danny's friend Dr. John Dalton, Rebecca Ferguson as cult leader Rose the Hat, Zahn McClarnon as her right-hand man Crow Daddy, and Jocelin Donahue in an unspecified role.
Doctor Sleep is set for release on November 8, 2019. Apart from Doctor Sleep, CinemaCon also witnessed the first footage of "It Chapter 2" that has been described as truly 'unnerving' and 'creepier than ever'. Although the footage is not out for the public yet, but we can soon expect Pennywise to terrorize us soon with the first trailer that could drop very soon.
