The initiative was taken keeping in mind the goal to help children, parents, carers, and teachers through the health crisis.
There is surely no magical spell available to make the pandemic disappear or to make your boredom go away, but we have something that might come pretty close to it, especially if you're a Harry Potter fan. As reported by Variety, Daniel Radcliffe, who famously portrayed the role of Harry Potter in all eight movies, is one of the many celebrities who will be reading "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" to keep us entertained during the lockdown. Apart from Radcliffe, Eddie Redmayne and Stephen Fry are among the other celebrities involved.
Surprise! We've got a treat for you…From today, amazing friends of the Wizarding World are going to take turns reading Harry Potter book one.— Wizarding World (@wizardingworld) May 5, 2020
And to start us off with Chapter 1, we think you’ll agree we have the perfect narrator...⚡️ #HarryPotterAtHome
The video is going to feature on Rowling's online hub and the initiative is taken keeping in mind the goal to help children, parents, carers, and teachers through the crisis. Spotify announced on Tuesday that the audio versions will be available on their channel.
The 30-year-old actor was seen reading from his couch in a video released Tuesday and said, "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much." Watch the video here.
And that's not all! Over the coming weeks, we’re going to be joined by other familiar faces reading all 17 chapters of Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone. https://t.co/1IPDxcS9mv— Wizarding World (@wizardingworld) May 5, 2020
Each celebrity will read a different section of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The remaining 16 chapters will be read by celebrities including Claudia Kim, Eddie Redmayne, Noma Dumezweni, David Beckham, Dakota Fanning, and Stephen Fry to name a few. Other names will be announced as the project goes forward. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has already started releasing a series of recordings and videos of celebrities reading and fans are definitely in for a treat over the next few weeks.
Harry Potter reading Harry Potter...YES!— John Legar (@jr_legar) May 5, 2020
You can watch the videos on harrypotterathome.com and audio-only versions will be available free at Spotify. At the time of the launch, Rowling said, "Parents, teachers, and carers working to keep children amused and interested while we're on lockdown might need a bit of magic." Apart from this, there are also post-reading activities for the chapter available. As reported by Nerdist, this is the latest initiative by the Harry Potter at Home project which aims to help people deal with COVID-19. Previously, they released free audiobooks of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in multiple languages.
One person wrote, "Thank you, @wizardingworld! This is one of the best things related to Harry Potter that I ever saw. It was really emotional to see Dan on it. This is truly amazing!" Another one added, "I’m happy to share this Harry Potter drawing features in the first Harry Potter At Home Reading video series launched today! Visit https://t.co/oefppX3Xhc to watch Daniel Radcliffe read Chapter 1: The Boy Who Lived." A third one quipped, " How nice a chapter would have been read by Alan Rickman. He had such a beautiful voice."
