Disney's Iconic '90s Cartoon 'Recess' Is Getting A Live-Action Remake And We Can't Keep Calm

The reboot of the iconic 90s Disney cartoon is said to be a "live-action, re-imagining of the gang in a high school setting tackling current issues like love, peer pressure, social media, identity, etc."

'90s kids rejoice! As fans continue to be treated with more and more live-action remakes, it looks like we may be finally getting the one we have been waiting for years! Guess who is coming back? Our favorite fourth graders -- T.J., Vince, Gretchen, Spinelli, Gus, and Mikey are finally back and how -- in an all-new live-action remake of Recess and we will finally get to see all the important lessons they learned while attending Third Street Elementary School. The reboot will be a "live-action, re-imagining of the gang in a high school setting tackling current issues like love, peer pressure, social media, identity, etc." Although the reboot isn't sanctioned by Disney, if all goes well, the non-profit film which is looking for funds will be released for free in August and will show what the former kids from Third Street Elementary are getting into as teenagers in high school.

And if you are wondering who will be playing the role of our beloved teenagers, don't worry we have all the details here. The movie directed by Vancouver filmmakers Jerome Yoo and Kent Donguines have found some big names to play the iconic cartoon characters. So far, Benjamin Wadsworth is said to be playing T.J., while Sean Depner will play Mikey, Louriza Tronco will play Spinelli, Adam DiMarco to play Randall, Lillian Doucet-Roche will essay the role of Gretchen, Fritzy-Klevans Destine (Batwoman) will star as Vince, and finally, Clive Holloway will be playing the role of Gus.

If you don't recall the iconic animated cartoon, TJ was the prankster while Vince was the athlete. And there is the tomboy Ashley, Gretchen the child prodigy, Mikey the goof, and Gus the nerd. And that's not all, there were also other characters that were equally loved by fans over the years.

The Disney cartoon started airing in 1997 and went on till 2001 completing six seasons with a total of 127 episodes. The show was so popular that even after its series finale, it was aired in syndication on ABC's sister channel Toon Disney, which became the Disney Channel.

Ever since fans got to know that there is a live-action remake of Recess on the way, they have expressed their excitement on social media. A Twitter user said: "DO NOT PLAY WITH MY FEELINGS! It BETTER be lit! Or I LIGHT THIS TOWN UP ON FIRE!" Meanwhile, there have been several others who are not too keen on the live-action remake. "How about new storylines instead of remakes? Use your imagination. I believe Walt was quite good at that," another Twitter user said.

Meanwhile, a third added: "I think they should remake every show I liked when I was 9 because then I will be happy like I was back then"
