Landlord forgives rent to woman in need and surprises her with gift of groceries at her doorstep.

In times of economic and social strife, it's nice to see people looking out for each other.

Some of the biggest damage done by the coronavirus has been economical in nature. 10 million Americans have filed for unemployment, bills aren't being paid on time, and people are struggling to afford groceries and other essentials. It's scary times we're living in, so any stories about kindness and human decency give a little bit of hope.

This is a nice story.

Nathan Nichols, a of South Portland, Maine, has two rental units and six tenants, according to WLBZ-TV. He’s decided to waive the April rent for his tenants and has encouraged others to do so.

“COVID19 is going to cause serious financial hardship for service and hourly workers around the country,” he shared on Monday. “I own a two unit in South Portland and all of my tenants are in this category.

“Because I have the good fortune of being able to afford it and the privilege of being in the owner class, I just let them know I would not be collecting rent in April. I ask any other landlords out there to take a serious look at your own situation and consider giving your tenants some rent relief as well.”

Similar stories have popped up across the country but one of the most touching has come out of Saginaw, Michigan. Christina Marie posted to her Facebook that her landlord "Alan" had not only paid her rent but added an extra surprise.

"SOOO My landlord Alan called me earlier and told me not to worry about rent this month and we will worry about it later," she posted on April 6. "[I] said okay!"

"Than he asked me if we had food I told him how I had 3 packs of meat left and needed to go this week and he told me okay be safe. Than I get a text saying go to your front porch please !!! And I see this I couldn’t tell you how I feel right now," she wrote, adding a photo of the groceries he left her. Included were meat, dairy, diapers, and all the other necessities.
