Melissa McCarthy Teases Playing Ursula In Disney's Live-Action Remake Of 'Little Mermaid'

When Jimmy Kimmel asked Melissa McCarthy if she'd be playing the role of Ursula, she winked at the camera, teasing fans in a very charming way.

When you are a celebrity and you are on the Jimmy Kimmel show, there's one thing most fans often notice is the rather fortuitous, unplanned details you may not have wanted to reveal. And earlier this week, Kimmel asked the wonderful Melissa McCarthy if she'd be playing the role of Ursula in Disney's live-action "Little Mermaid". And Melissa, in her quirky best, teased her interest in taking up the iconic role as she winked at the camera. As reported by CNN.

What does this mean? Is she going to play Ursula? Although most fans think she would beautifully essay the role of the Disney character, Kimmel wanted to confirm this. During the show, Kimmel asked, "I read that you are going to be a part of the live-action remake of 'Little Mermaid." While Melissa joked, "What's that?"

"I hadn't heard about that. It seems like it will be an awfully fun thing to do. I'd love if Disney gave me a little ringy-ding-ding," the Emmy Award-winning artist added. "We'll see," she said, winking at the camera. "If it did happen, it would be very wonderful, Disney."

And that's not all. She also expressed her love for the original "Mermaid" because she watched it 'every single night for about a year and a half' when she worked as a nanny before making it big in Hollywood. "I know it to my core, and I weirdly still love it," she said.

Reports of the actress in talks with Disney to play the iconic villain Ursula has been going on for more than a month and the way it looks like, she might actually end up playing the sea witch in 'Little Mermaid'.

The upcoming live-action remake directed by Rob Marshall has caused a stir on social media, particularly over its casting. When singer-actor Halle Bailey from Chloe x Halle was tapped by Disney to play Ariel, many fans were not too happy about it. Many even tossed a ton of racist hate at Bailey and Disney because a black actress playing Ariel was something they just couldn't fathom.

β€œAfter an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance β€” plus a glorious singing voice β€” all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” Rob Marshall said in a statement, as reported by Variety. He had spent a lot of time in casting the perfect Ariel and he finally cast Bailey as the iconic Disney character.
