Mike Flanagan Has A 'Killer Idea' For A New 'Nightmare On Elm Street' Movie

Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan is really looking forward to bring Freddy Krueger back on the big screen. "I’m dying to get in there to pitch it. If I got to do this it would be so cool.”

We have all grown up watching Nightmare on Elm Street over the years and the number of sleepless nights looking at Freddy Krueger is way too many to count.

And now just days after Wes Craven's Estate got the rights to Freddy Krueger back in its possession, many candidates have come forward expressing their desire to reboot A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Mike Flanagan, the director of Doctor Sleep -- the sequel to The Shining, is one of them. “I got a killer idea,” Flanagan told Bloody Disgusting. "[I’m] dying to get in there to pitch it. If I got to do this it would be so cool.”

And this is not the first time he expressed his interest to bring Freddy back to the big screen after nearly a decade. Flanagan also took to Twitter, commenting on a post about Wes Craven taking a 'Nightmare On Elm Street' pitches. "Put me in, coach... I've got a pitch!" he wrote.

Now although nothing is set in stone, the way things are moving forward, we could soon get a Nightmare On Elm Street reboot and we can't wait for that day.

Although the chances of Robert Englund returning as the horror icon seems bleak, he may have found someone who could fill in his boots. Englund recently shared that Kevin Bacon, who previously starred in the original Friday the 13th, would make a great fit as Freddy.

"So we need a new actor that you guys believe in and trust and love that can go the distance.” Englund added, “He’s not a kid anymore either but the rumor I’ve heard that I like is Kevin Bacon. Kevin loves horror. He’s a real actor. He’s a character actor. Kevin was great in Tremors. Kevin was great in Stir of Echoes. And I’ve heard this rumor. We need someone like that to take it on. And re-do it, exploiting all of the new technology.”

Freddy Krueger star Robert Englund was also on the news recently for all the right reasons. The legendary actor fulfilled the life-long dream of a young Freddie fan who is battling a rare disease. Robert met Henry, the 18-year-old horror fan, after being contacted by the Make-A-Wish Illinois program.

In what can be truly considered as a heartwarming photo posted on the Make-A-Wish Illinois Twitter account, Henry can be seen wearing his Freddy attire while striking a pose with Englund.
