Although the makers are yet to release the official date, it is now confirmed that the second season of Mindhunter is heading to Netflix this August.
Mindhunter is finally here! After the first season of Mindhunter released in 2017, fans have been wondering when the second season would be aired. Now, we finally have a release date for season 2 — but you might have to wait a little longer.
The viewers were left mindblown with the first season of the series that focuses on the early days of criminal psychology and profiling. And how the show managed to make everything gripping despite not showing a single murder, reports Screenrant.
Set in the 1970s, the series follows the lives of two FBI agents played by Groff and McCallany, who interview imprisoned serial killers in order to learn about current cases. Renowned filmmaker David Fincher, who has directed movies like Se7en, Fight Club and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, helmed four episodes of the show's first season. Fincher was also the executive producer of the show alongside Charlize Theron, Joshua Donen, and Cean Chaffin.
And now fans will finally get into the minds of the ruthless serial killers once again with the second season. The psychological drama show was inspired by John Douglas’ true crime classic Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, that focuses on understanding an evil mind.
The first season of Mindhunter proved a hit following its release in 2017, with viewers loving the gritty portrayal of the early days of serial killer profiling. Netflix had earlier confirmed the second season even before the first one aired.
"Season two is coming out in August. Yeah, can’t wait. Deep, dark… it’s wonderful," 43-year-old Theron said during the SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show.
"Next year we’re looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we’ll have a lot more African-American music which will be nice. The music will evolve. It’s intended to support what’s happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons," Fincher had earlier told Billboard in 2017.
The Atlanta child murders happened between 1979 and 1981, in which 28 children and adults were killed. A man named Wayne Williams was convicted for two of those murders, although he still maintains his innocence. Williams is currently serving two consecutive life sentences.
Netflix had earlier hit jackpot with the true crime documentary on serial killer Ted Bundy and it comes as no surprise that they would bring back Mindhunter for another season.
According to executive producer Charlize Theron, Mindhunter will be returning to the streaming platform towards the end of the summer. Although the makers are yet to release the official date, it is now confirmed that the second season is heading to Netflix in August.
Ever since the news of the series returning for the second season has been made public, fans have been going gaga. Some even took to Twitter to express their excitement over it. A Twitter user said: "Please have Mindhunter cleanse my eyes after watching game of thrones end."
