Netflix Drops 'Mercy Black' Out Of Nowhere, And This Chilling Horror Movie Is Inspired By A True Story!

And if you are one of those who want the comfort of being snuggled cozily up inside, and want to just enjoy some real chills -- Mercy Black is your go-to Netflix horror that will ensure all the scares - all from the safety of your blankets.

Slenderman has and will always be one of the scariest creatures out there. Sure, he might not be real and that he lurks around only in the woods, but what is truly terrifying is the mere thought of himself that is dangerous.

Mercy Black thrives on that and Netflix surely hit gold with a surprise Blumhouse production. And when we say surprise, we really mean it because honestly, no one saw it coming, reports Bustle.

Oh Netflix, you never cease to amaze us. Just when we thought that it was going to be a regular Sunday for us Netflix fanatics, the streaming giant brought about a rather chilling treat in 'Mercy Black'. Albeit the fans weren't expecting the movie, but there were definitely quite a few murmurs on social media. And boy, are we stoked to see a Blumhouse horror movie on Netflix!

This horror flick comes from the genius mind of Austin writer-director Owen Egerton (Follow, Blood Fest) and should we say, it is also loosely inspired by real-life events. Yes, it is on! And surely, what better satisfaction in watching a horror movie when the words "Based On A True Story" flashes on the screens.

But hold your horses, although the movie is not exactly an adaption of a real-life incident, it is sort of, inspired by a rather chilling incident which is as unnerving as it gets! 'Mercy Black' hinges on two incidents -- Slenderman controversy and the U.K. Mary Bell child killer case. However, it has its own voice.

It all starts with, "Do you know Mercy? Do you know her name? She'll take away your hurt if you promise her your pain." And if these words do not give you the heebie-jeebies, wait there's more! Even if you don't scare easily, this movie could leave you shaken up for days, thanks to the plot which goes something like this --

Mercy Black takes an approach that focuses on the insidiousness of creatures like Slender Man and Bloody Mary and how it truly messes with our heads! It follows a young woman named Marina who is committed to a mental institution after she and her friend had lured a classmate to the woods. And for what? To sacrifice her to 'Mercy Black', a monster you probably don't want to end up bumping into. However, fret not! It's just a mythical creature made up for cinematic purposes.

Why did they do that? Well, they believed she would become flesh and solve their problems. However, Marina was more hesitant than her friend.

And fast forward to a few years later, Marina's psychologist is quite sure that she is ready to lead a normal life. Well, Marina isn't too sure about it! As fate would have it, she does end up in the real world and moves in with her sister. In the day and age of social media, things can spread like a wildfire and so did 'Mercy Black', that became the talk of the town, a viral sensation!

All of this happened while she was away! And there was a barrage of stories, creepypasta, and worst of all, copycat crimes, that took place on the internet, and in real life as well. Moving on with Marina, eerie events start taking place around her and she begins to question her own sanity. But what really gets her back to reality is when her nephew questions her about Mercy Black -- with the same curiosity and belief that she had when she was a child.

And that's when she knew. This has got to stop. It was about time. We are not going to spoil it any more for you, so go ahead and give it a watch to know how things pan out.

This movie is based on another shadowy benefactor. A truly horrifying incident that took place in 2014 witnessed two 12-year-old girls getting arrested and charged as adults for "attempted first-degree intentional homicide". Her friend was stabbed multiple times.

But what is truly scary is when the girls told the police officers that they wanted to "sacrifice" their friend to become "proxies" for Slender Man.

They pleaded guilty but with one of their mental illness, it meant that they were not responsible for their actions. One of them was sentenced to be hospitalized for 25 years to life from the date of the incident. While the other girl was sentenced to the maximum 40-years-to-life in the institution.

If this story has scared the bejesus out of you, Mercy Black is now on Netflix!
