Penn Badgley Confirms Beck Will Return In 'You' Season 2: 'In His Mind, She's Not Even Dead'

The Joe Goldberg actor has spilled the beans about the upcoming season of Netflix's 'You' and they aren't pretty!

If you have been keenly following Netflix's You, we have another update and this time, it comes directly from the man Penn Badgley himself. The 32-year-old actor, who plays creepy-stalker-bookstore manager Joe Goldberg in the show, has spilled the beans about the highly anticipated upcoming season of You and revealed some major plot details and they are well, a bit unexpected and shocking.

All this while we have been thinking that Beck was dead and won't be returning in season 2 but turns out that is not the case. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Penn has teased that we will be seeing Elizabeth Lail once again!

"There's a revisitation of that [the murder] with Joe in the second episode of the second season, where you get to see a bit more of the hard reality of what he did to her."

"Whereas you're sort of, for better or worse, mercifully saved from seeing that in the first season. That always haunts me, thinking of Beck. It's like, 'You really did that in the first season, and we're still going, and people really like this guy?!' That's disturbing. In his mind, she's not even dead. I'm not giving you some kind of spoiler, she's dead. In his mind, everyone's still alive because the pain that he feels he suffered at their hand is very much still alive," he added.

So, we are guessing that even though Beck is dead, we will keep seeing her in flashbacks? As of yet, Elizabeth hasn't been announced as a cast member or even a guest but maybe she'll make a cameo? Lail, however, previously said in an interview that her character is dead and she is out of the show.

“I am sad to not continue that journey with him,” Lail told Radio Times. “But it’s only him, and I think they’re shooting it in LA, and so nothing will be the same. Hardly anything. It’ll be a whole other story...The unfortunate thing is, the woman doesn’t win in the end and I’m so sick and tired of that.”

On the other hand, Joe's ex-ex Candace who may or may not be alive, however, is all set to haunt Joe once again. A picture of Penn and Childers with the script of the show on their table surfaced on the internet, confirming that the revenge plot is going to be THICK in this one. According to showrunner Sera Gamble, that's all the season is going to be about - Joe and his messed up past life.

And instead of Lail, Victoria Pedretti, who won our hearts as Nell Crain in The Haunting of Hill House is next up on Joe's radar. "Haunting of Hill House breakout Victoria Pedretti landed the female lead in @YouNetflix Season 2. She plays Love Quinn, an aspiring chef who doesn't care about social media. She's also tending to a deep grief — so when she meets Joe she senses a shared knowledge of profound loss," Netflix tweeted.

"We'll be going into Joe's early life in season two, and naturally we want to know more and move around in his entire life. I will say that the whole time we're in the writers' room talking about what that story could be, or what flashbacks or glimpses into his life we might catch, this has been a guiding principle for us; he had a pretty terrible childhood and that does contribute to who he is as an adult," showrunner Sera told Cosmopolitan.

Will you be watching? There's no official date for You season 2 yet but it is expected to release later this year.
