Longtime fans of Pippi Longstocking are in for a treat as the childhood classic is coming to life once again after many decades.
Pippi Longstocking is coming to the big screen, thanks to a reboot. Studiocanal and Heyday Films are coming together to give a new lease of life to Pippi Longstocking. The image of Pippi with her bright red hair and mismatched knee-high socks takes us back on a nostalgic path of our childhood bedtime stories. The character was created by Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren and will once again be seen on the big screen as a new adaptation of the movie is in works, reported Variety.
David Heyman of Harry Potter fame is going to oversee the project. While there have been no additional details released about the project, Heyman is reportedly determined "to honor" Pippi Longstocking's literary legacy through this movie. For many of us, Pippi Longstocking is one of the iconic characters we remember from our childhood. The first books of Pippi Longstocking were published from 1945 to 1948. After this, three short stories and many picture book adaptations were also published.
Since its publication, the books have been translated into more than 70 languages and more than 65 million copies were sold all over the world. In a statement released by STUDIOCANAL, Heyday Films, and the Astrid Lindgren Company, Heyman said, "Pippi has endured and inspired families everywhere through her life force and strength of character. Astrid Lindgren's books have been translated around the globe for many years - a testament to her vision which we are determined to honor with a new film." Over the years, Pippi has acquired a lot of fans, one of the prolific ones being Michelle Obama.

Nils Nyman, Lindgren’s grandson and CEO of Astrid Lindgren Film also released a statement, saying, "In David Heyman, with his impressive track record of bringing great literary works to the screen, together with Studiocanal, we are confident that we have found a team that can understand and appreciate the full value of Pippi Longstocking and develop films that capture both the playfulness and the gravity in my grandmother’s works."
In the books, the character of Pippi Longstocking is portrayed as an extremely independent girl, who, in many ways, is wiser than her years. She is also said to be one of the strongest girls in the world, whose spirit and determination do not falter easily. Apart from that, Pippi is also a generous, kind, and a very fun person to be around. According to the producers, these three qualities are more important now than it ever was and maybe that's why it is being adapted on the big screen.
While there is no doubt that the movie is going to be a massive hit with adults and children alike, we hope that children from today's generation will still be able to relate to Pippi Longstocking and her striking personality.
