'Pirates of The Caribbean' Actor Says A New Movie Is 'Definitely' Being Discussed

It is not clear if the new installment will be a sequel or a reboot of the original franchise. Last year, Disney brought Craig Mazin on board, who is the creator of the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries Chernobyl.

While growing up, we all loved watching the Pirates of Caribbean movies. It has been a while since there have been any solid details regarding the release of a new movie and the future of the franchise has been up in the air for quite some time now. But actor Lee Arenberg has given us some hope and said that a sixth movie is 'definitely' being discussed, reported Comicbook. Arenberg played the role of pirate Pintel in the first three movies of the franchise. The 57-year-old actor has not been involved since 2007's At World's End but he has given hope for all the fans of the franchise that a sixth movie might be on the horizon.

In a conversation with Kendall Talks TV, he said, "They're definitely talking about it, as far as I know. I mean yeah, of course, obviously. But they've already done two without us [laughs]. I love it, though, I love that part. But it's not up to me. It's something to talk about during a pandemic." It is not clear if the new installment will be a sequel or a reboot of the original franchise. But last year, Disney made some new additions by bringing Ted Elliot and Craig Mazin on board. Elliot co-wrote the first three filmsand Mazin is the creator of the critically acclaimed HBO miniseries Chernobyl

The most recent installment of the franchise, Dead Man Tell No Tales grossed $800 million worldwide but it was the weakest movie of the entire installment, earning only $172.6 million in the domestic box office. At this stage, we don't know when a sixth movie is going to happen, but Dead Man Tell no Tales gave a possible hint about a sixth and a final film of the franchise during a post-credit scene where it was revealed that Davy Jones is back, even though he was defeated by Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth in At World's End

As reported by Daily Mail, Stuart Beattie, who was the screenwriter for The Curse of Black Pearl had earlier said about Johnny Depp: "I think [Depp's] had a great run. Obviously he's made that character his own and it's become the thing that he's most famous for now. It's been great for him and it's been great for us... There's that saying, 'Don't frown because it's over, smile because it happened. The fact that they're rebooting something that you did means that you did something that was worth rebooting. It's an honor."

The sixth movie will be directed by Joachim Ronning and the script will be written by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot. The release date for the sixth movie has not been announced yet but reports suggest that it will be released sometime in 2021. In March, reports suggested that Johnny Depp will be reprising his role as Jack Sparrow and after the recent revelations between him and Amber Heard, Disney executives are trying their best for the 56-year-old actor's return.
