Jon Kasdan, co-writer of the new Willow series, took to Twitter to announce the commencement of production by posting a picture with the caption, "The office is open."
The much-awaited sequel to the 1988 film "Willow" is closer than you think. The production for the movie has already begun and was announced by Jon Kasdan himself. Kasdan, who is a co-writer for the new series, took to Twitter to let everyone know that "The office is open" for the Willow sequel, which is now ready to be made, finally. He posted a picture of a cap hanging from a corkboard with an illustration of Willow on it. Under the illustration is the inscription of the character's name as well.
The sequel to the high-fantasy movie was confirmed last year and what made the thirty-year wait worth it was that fans would be getting an entire series instead of just a two-hour movie. The new series will be streaming on the new streaming platform, Disney+. Kasdan had already even written the pilot episode for the series, reported the Los Angeles Times. Before this, Ron Howard, who co-wrote the Star Wars film "Solo" with Kasdan had teased the sequel on an MTV podcast Happy Sad Confused, where he said, "There are some really serious discussions going on with Jon Kasdan, who was one of the writers of Solo, who kept hounding me about Willow the whole time we were shooting and also hounding Kathy Kennedy."
Negotiations for the sequel had started in the first half of 2019 and was one among the other original productions under the Lucasfilm banner, according to Variety. The sequel could see the original actor Warwick Davis coming back for the role of Willow. "Warwick is so cool and so good and he’s such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action," Howard said. Joanne Whalley, Billy Barty, and Kevin Pollak had also starred in the original film but it is unsure if they will be coming back to the sequel-series.
During its original release, the film did not do well in theatres. But over time, the high-fantasy film has gained a loyal following and has become a cult-favorite. The movie revolves around the story of a farmer and magician named Willow Ufgood, who is put in charge of protecting a baby girl who holds the power to overthrow an evil queen. The movie follows the adventures of Willow along with his allies who include a swordsman and a sorceress, who strive to keep the baby safe in a magical war-torn land. Although much is not known about the series, it is believed to pick up where the movie ended 30 years ago and show events that follow.
