Robert Irwin And Robert Downey Jr. Have A Sweet Reunion 16 Years After Their First Meeting

Steve Irwin's son caught up with the actor after 16 years and interviewed the 'Iron Man' star for the Today Show.

'Crocodile Hunter' Steven Irwin's son shared images of himself with actor Robert Downey Jr., taken 16 years apart. The actor visited Australia to promote his new movie Dolittle, and sat down for an interview with Robert Irwin for Australia's Today Show. Robert Irwin took the opportunity to share images he had with the Iron Man star, one from when he was a baby and one that was taken recently, according to The Daily Mail. The 16-year-old has followed in his father's footsteps and become an environmental conservationist and wildlife expert. He's also an award-winning photographer.

"The first time I met Robert Downey Jr. was when I was just a few months old when he and his family visited @australiazoo - it was awesome getting to catch up again to chat all things #Dolittle," wrote Steve Irwin. Robert Downey Jr. visited the Australian Zoo almost 16 years ago when Robert Irwin was just a baby in his father's arms. Robert Irwin shared the two pictures he shared with the actor and described him as "one of the kindest people you’ll meet." In the throwback picture, Robert Downey Jr. standing with Steve Irwin, who's holding his baby, Robert Irwin, as python envelopes the group. He also hailed the actor's commitment to the environment, especially at a time when deadly wildfires are spreading all over Australia. Irwin called Robert Downey Jr. "an incredible advocate for our environment!"

"I’ve got to say, the last time I caught up with you, I was teething,’ the teenager joked as the pair sat down for an interview. "It was a very long time ago," responded to Robert Downey Jr. The actor said that he remembers his visit to the Australian zoo fondly, where he also caught up with Steve Irwin. "My dad absolutely loved touring you around the zoo, that was one of the highlights of his life. It's great to get to meet you again," Robert Irwin told the Marvel star, according to The Metro.

The Irwin family has been busy trying to rescue and treat animals affected by the devastating fires in the country. Over 90,000 animals have been rescued by the Australian Zoo hospital that's run by the Irwin family. Bindi Irwin, Steve's daughter, said the zoo's Wildlife Hospital has been "busier than ever." Robert Irwin said that Ollie, an orphaned platypus, was patient number 90,000 at the hospital. The Australia Zoo is owned and operated by the Irwin family.

Robert Irwin also appeared on TV along with his mother, Terri Irwin, earlier this week, to talk about the plight of animals as the bushfires rage on in Australia. "It's definitely an ongoing issue and we're just trying to do our best to help in any way we can," said Robert Irwin, before adding, "But it's a pretty tough situation. We're absolutely heartbroken," said an emotional Robert Irwin. It has been estimated that at least 1 billion animals have died due to the wildfires.
