Hocus Pocus sequel is officially happening and SJP had some exciting things to say.
It looks like we are in for another witchy treat as Sarah Jessica Parker has given us an interesting update about the upcoming sequel. It goes without saying that Hocus Pocus is one of the most loved Halloween classics, apart from being one of the most popular '90s movies. While almost two decades have passed, the movie has still managed to be a favorite for many generations and its loyal fanbase has only been growing for years now.
Since it's such a popular and widely loved movie, the entire fanbase had been hoping and demanding this movie gets a much-deserved sequel. Reports about a follow-up movie started circulating last year, around the time when Disney+ was launched in the US. Back then, it was revealed by Variety that Adam Shankman is going to direct it and Jen D'Angelo had signed on to pen the script. While this did provide the fans with some good news, they were still worried whether original cast members Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Bette Midler would reprise their roles as the iconic Sanderson sisters.
But, in an interview with Quarantined with Bruce, Parker said, "I think that it is something Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and I are all very hospitable to the idea. I think for a long time, people were talking about it as if people were moving forward with it in a real way but we were unaware of it. And I think for a long time people were talking about it as if people were moving forward with it in a real way, but we were unaware of it. But I think now, we've gotten to the point where we’ve agreed publicly to the right people, "yes, that would be a very, very fun idea," so we’ll see what the future holds."
A Hocus Pocus sequel is already in works at Disney+, but we don't know much about the project since it is kept tightly under the wraps. And going by the interview given by Parker, the sequel might not directly follow the original movie. But we can sure hope that by some miracle, we will again get to see our favorite Sanderson sisters continuing their witchy business in the upcoming movie too.
But this isn't the first time Parker has teased the fans about her role in the sequel. The New York Times posted an article about the sequel being in works with Disney+ and SJP shared a throwback photo at the same time. In the comments section, she was asked, "Any chance of a sequel?" to which she responded, "We have all said yes. Now we wait."
But, fans should also remember that they might have to wait for a year (or more) to see the sequel due to the ongoing pandemic. There has been no release date announced for the project and neither do we know when Shankman plans on directing the movie. According to a report by Variety, the director is currently working in pre-production on the Enchanted sequel Disenchanted for Disney.
