Prom season can be hard, specially for the dateless but this boy manned up and took 'love yourself' to a whole new level.
In life, we bear through a lot of nerve-wracking events and prom happens to be one of them. No, don't get me wrong, if you are in a relationship or have a date, it can actually end up being pretty memorable for you and if not, it will still be memorable but the kind of memory you wish to forget. Single people have it the worst and let's not even get started on how the socially awkward suffer. Most dateless students end up skipping the prom altogether but not this guy. This teenager, with an incredible sense of humor, took himself out to prom and is the internet's latest hero.
16-year-old Wyatt Cheatle from Brighton decided to leave his anxiety behind and went to his junior prom as his own date! The boy dressed up as half girl-half boy wearing a half dress-half suit outfit and proudly showed off his love for himself. "I decided to go myself, 'cause frankly it's easier than finding out who's going with who, or who's not going," Cheatle told Democrat & Chronicle and his prom pictures are now going viral for all the right reasons.
"I figured I'd be my own date since I know myself better than any other person. I figured I'd have a good time," he added revealing the idea of a half and half dress started as a joke when he was having dinner with his family. To his surprise, his mother loved the idea and helped him create the most creative prom date dress ever. They went shopping, bought a beautiful dress and a fancy suit and grabbed some scissors, thread, and needles. It was showtime!
"We went to Goodwill and picked up a bunch of different dresses to see what we could put together at home, and a nice shirt and black pants," Wyatt said. "My mom’s a genius." While Kelly, his mom, did most of the work, he too, chipped in and worked on the outfit by himself. Seriously, ladies, the guy has a sense of humor, is cute, creative, works hard, loves his momma, and can even sew, why is he still single?
Kelly was so proud of his son that she took to Reddit to share the story of the half and half dress and the internet is in LOVE. "My son was flying solo to the prom and decided that he'd be his own date. One thing led to another and the week before the big event, he decided rather than going with a boring old suit, we'd split the difference and send him in a half suit/half-dress," she posted on the forum along with pictures of her son wearing the dress-suit.
"After a mad dash to the local thrift store, lots of cutting and rearranging, we were done. Didn't quite have time to find him shoes to match, but there's always senior prom hahahaha," she added. As per how things went at Wyatt's prom, people were surprised but it went pretty smoothly. "There were a few people who were surprised that I went through with it. But no one was a jerk about it and I got a lot of compliments,” the teenager revealed.
Kelly's Reddit post has been shared over thousands of time now and is flooded with positive comments! "That's a young man with positivity and confidence. What a great idea. Took creativity and talent to put together. Well done 😊," commented a person. "That's awesome and very, very clever. Obviously a confident, self-assured young person with a great sense of humor. Bravo to both of you!" added another. Kudos to Wyatt and his mother!
