Boy, 6, Saves Sister From Dog Attack: "If Someone Had To Die, I Thought It Should Be Me"

His bravery has been lauded by many celebrities, including Mark Ruffalo and Ruby Rose.

Bridger Walker, a brave six-year-old boy from Wyoming, has earned global praise and recognition for rescuing his sister from a vicious dog attack. He selflessly stood between his baby sister and a charging dog to protect her from being attacked. According to his aunt Nikki Walker, when he saw the dog get too close, the brave six-year-old didn't even think twice before putting himself in harm's way to make sure his sister didn't get hurt.

On July 9, Bridger jumped into action when a 1-year-old old German shepherd mix charged toward his 4-year-old sister. Nikki took to Instagram to share the story and shared some heartbreaking pictures of the toddler who was left bruised. Bridger received 90 stitches as the dog bit him on his head and face. She wrote, "Hey, all. Please, share my nephew’s story so that it gets as much exposure as it can. We know that our little hero would love some words of encouragement from his favorite heroes."

She continued, "On July 9th, my six-year-old nephew Bridger saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog. After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe. He later said, “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.” After receiving 90 stitches (give or take) from a skilled plastic surgeon, he’s finally resting at home. We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks"

Along with the post, she also tagged several actors like Tom Holland, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Tom Hiddleston, Chadwick Boseman, Vin Diesel, and Chris Evans who played superheroes on screen. After people enquired about the dog, she replied the dog owner decided to euthanize their pet after the horrific incident.

Walker also added that Bridger was very upset when he got to know that the dog will be put down. She added, "Bridger actually cried when he found out that the dog would be put down. He hated the idea of any dog—even that one—dying." In another post, Nikki updated the people and said her nephew is in great spirits, and "his awesome personality is still intact."

She wrote, "He can’t smile too widely yet, but he was grinning as I read some of your comments to him. I’d also like to mention here that the dog’s owners are really great people who have been nothing but kind to Bridger and his family. We feel no resentment toward them at all, and—if anything—there’s only been an increase of love between our families as a result of this incident."

Nikki also mentioned that after this story went viral, many people came up and asked her if she needs financial assistance. She mentioned that Bridger's family would like any donation to be directed to Mission 22, a community organization dedicated to veterans in need or the wounded warrior project. Bridger is a Geology enthusiast and she is going to start a page where her nephew can show off the cool collection of rocks he has. She also posted an address where people can send Bridger some rocks that he could enjoy. The address is:

Bridger's story became viral on social media. Ruby Rose, who plays the role of Batwoman, commented saying, "A true hero." Mark Ruffalo, who plays the role of the Incredible Hulk, also commented, saying, "Dear Bridger, I just read about what happened to you and I wanted to reach out to say this... People who put the well beings of others in front of themselves are the most heroic and thoughtful people I know. I truly respect and admire your courage and your heart. Real courage isn't dominating people or fighting against people or walking around like a tough guy. Real courage is knowing what is right to do and doing it even when it might end up hurting you somehow. You are more of man than many, many I have seen or known. With Admiration...Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk/Professor).
