Serpentessa revealed that people look forward to these massages for three reasons - healing, empowerment or just to get over the fear of snakes.
After a long working week, putting in all the hours, how does a nice, relaxing massage sound to you? Well, a spa is truly one place where all you have to do is lie down, relax and enjoy the soothing effect of a nice therapeutic massage.
However, if you are someone who is not scared of snakes, you can now try out snake massages that offer a twisted spin on the massage therapy. According to CBS New York, you can now get your first snake massage from Serpentessa, a snake priestess at Dreaming Goddess in Poughkeepsie.
“Just enjoy them and feel them,” Serpentessa told Pam Kelly of Pleasant Valley, New York.
And if you're wondering how it works, don't worry we have all the details here. Serpentessa has three boa constrictors, who will be your masseuse, and they are longer than six feet. They will be slithering all over your body.
Serpentessa said that she can’t control them to do anything as each snake does everything all by itself. It chooses its own path, glides over the body, wraps itself around you and ensures a very relaxing massage.
“They tone and stimulate the vagus nerve in our body and that releases endorphins and oxytocin,” Serpentessa said. 'Those are the feel-good hormones.”
“There are no guarantees with a wild animal,” she said adding that although you have to get the massage at your own risk, there has not been a single customer who has been hurt. “You are the one who’s going to choose whether if it’s is safe for you or not. So no one has ever been hurt by one of my boa constrictors.”
You can now visit the New York shop called Dreaming Goddess and get the massage that usually lasts about 1 hour, 15 minutes. You might have to shell out a $300 service for it.
One of the customers was Pam Kelly who loved the snake massage. “It was a lot calmer and peaceful than I thought it would be,” said Kelly. “There was a point it felt like they were just hugging me around the shoulders. It just felt very calm – like I could fall asleep.”
Serpentessa has been working as an interspecies facilitator for over 25 years, so you would think she knows how to handle these snakes or any situation regarding the safety of the customer. She also revealed that people look forward to these massages for mostly three reasons - healing, empowerment or just to get over the fear of snakes.
