Josh Lucas, who plays Jake Perry in the classic rom-com movie, has said that he might be down for a Sweet Home Alabama sequel. But it all depends on Reese Witherspoon now.
While most people when they hear the words Sweet Home Alamaba think of the iconic Lynyrd Skynyrd song, there is another set of fans who can't get enough of the love story between Melanie Carmichael and Jake Perry. Yes, we are talking about our beloved romantic comedy movie Sweet Home Alamaba and fans, listen up, here's some new update that might just keep you way too excited for a very long time. As reported by Entertainment Tonight.
Josh Lucas, who plays Jake Perry in the classic rom-com movie, has said that he might be down for a Sweet Home Alabama sequel. Wait, hold on! Yes, we might be getting a sequel for our beloved film after 17 long years and we can't honestly keep calm. However, there's a slight catch in here. Josh said Reese is also up for it but the decision now depends entirely on Reese Witherspoon.
"I'm up for it. I know Reese's said she is as well," said Lucas. He also stated how even Andy Tennant, who directed the first installment, was ready for a sequel. "The director [Andy Tennant] is absolutely up for it. I spoke to him about it a couple of times recently. So look, I throw it out to you, Reese," he said. "I think the person who’s the one to put it together is Reese, so I’m hoping. Who knows? She’s got a lot of irons in the fire, to say the least. Hopefully, this is one of them," concluded Lucas.
And not surprisingly enough, the growing clamor over a sequel to the film had even prompted a response from Reese back in 2016 when she participated in a Facebook Live Q&A, reports PEOPLE.
She had revealed to her fans how she would be more than happy to relive her role of Melanie once again. "We are not making a sequel that I know of, but if Disney wants to make a sequel they can just call me. I would happily make Sweet Home Alabama 2," she said.
And that's not all, in April this year, Lucas had also reportedly spoken to the writer and director about a possible sequel. So could it actually happen? Well, only time can tell.
If you can't recall what the movie was all about, the story revolved around Melanie and Jake playing childhood soulmates and then they grow up and get married. However, things don't go as planned and their relationship falls apart when Melanie leaves Jake to get into a fashion career in New York City.
As fate would have it, they come back together again when Melanie returns to Alabama in order to get a divorce from Jake after her new boyfriend, played by Patrick Dempsey, proposes.
Now although we don't know what the proposed sequel would be all about, it looks like we might just be able to relive those Sweet Home Alabama days once again.
