'The Addams Family' Is Getting An Animated Makeover After 28 Years, And Releasing This Halloween!

Based on the comics by Charles Addams, the creepiest family on the block is coming back in a 3D avatar and we cannot wait!

A lot of big budget and kind of overrated movies are coming out this year and quite honestly, The Addams Family which is also set to release this year seems sort of forgotten and I don't understand why. The Addams Family is a Halloween classic, a horror-macabre masterpiece, and one of the most loved twisted movies ever made. Last year, it was announced that The Addams Family was getting an animated makeover based on the comics by Charles Addams and will be coming out in 3D in 2019, and the animated movie is ready to spook the silver screen this Halloween! Let's talk about that, please!

Initially, the original Addams Family movie faced a lot of financial struggles and the team behind the movie sold it out to Paramount Pictures, fearing that it will be yet another flop. To their surprise, with a budget of $25 million, The Addams Family turned out to be a hit, doing a business of more than $191.5 million worldwide and becoming a cult classic.  One of the major reasons behind the movie's immense success was the fact that the movie was brilliantly unique!

Even though the characters were on the dark side, they're still extremely lovable and they captured the hearts of the viewers. Now, after 28 years, the movie is getting an animated remake and the fans of horror can't keep calm! Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures (MGM), who distributed the first movie worldwide, has debuted the first look of the upcoming movie and it sure looks interesting! In fact, fans are claiming it looks as if it is straight out of a Tim Burton's animated movie.

Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac will be voicing Gomez Addams and Academy Award Winner Charlize Theron from Mad Max will be speaking for dark queen Morticia Addams. Chloë Grace Moretz, who played Carrie in Carrie will be the voice behind the creepy yet adorable Wednesday Addams. Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan will be directing the movie. Finn Wolfhard, who rose to fame after Netflix's Stranger Things became widely popular, will be playing Pugsley Addams in the movie. Earlier, Finn was also seen in the remake of Stephen King's IT. Our favorite witch from Hocus Pocus, Bette Midler will be voicing for Grandmama and Allison Janney will voice for Margaux Needler.

Based on the creations of Charles Addams, The Addams Family is a satire aimed to mock the so-called perfect American life. The family is unaffected by the fact that people find them macabre and bizarre and continue living their lives as they please. Talking about the animated movie, the director Vernon told comicbook.com, "Greg and I have always been a fan of The Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family."

"This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation," he added. The movie will be out on October 11, 2019, in the US. Other dates are yet to be announced. The movie is studded with the biggest of stars, and now I am more excited for Halloween than ever!

"Conrad and Greg are masters of animation with the keen ability to create something both kids and their parents will enjoy for different reasons. Adding to that a world-class caliber of talent with Oscar, Charlize, Chloë, Finn, Nick, Bett, and Allison – we can't wait to bring their fresh and modern take on The Addams Family to the worldwide audience," said the president of MGM Motion Pictures Group, Jonathan Glickman.

Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara will be playing the role of the married couple opposite the Addams. "Catherine O’Hara and I are doing voices in the ‘Addams Family’ movie that is being done now. We insisted that we record together. Because we play husband and wife. So that is always beneficial. Catherine is a life-long friend and co-worker so it comes with a very rich short-hand. So there’s an advantage to having us two together in the same room. Often you don’t get to meet the cast members," Short told Metro.
