This Halloween, meet the Addams Family in an all new avatar! The weirdest yet the most lovable family is returning in 3D, based on the comics by Charles Addams.
IT IS HEREEEE! Finally. MGM decided not to tease the fans anymore and dropped the trailer we all have been impatiently waiting for since last year. Reviving the iconic goth family after a span of 28 years, the studio gave the characters we love a makeover and they look as if they are straight out of a Tim Burton movie, even though Burton isn't really involved with the movie, it is a win-win situation for the fans of horror. "Get ready to snap your fingers! The Addams Family is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbor," MGM described the upcoming movie.
The trailer opens up with the movie's logo with Thing besides it, wearing a watch, which looks like an eye. Then, the teaser goes ahead and lists out all the normal families out there, finally coming to the not so normal one - The Addams Family. We see the iconic Addams castle and the Morticia and Gomez goofing around. The clip also features several puns, including an IT reference where our dear Wednesday is seen carrying a red balloon. ICONIC.
The teaser successfully introduces us to the characters and their voices. Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac is voicing Gomez Addams and Academy Award Winner Charlize Theron is dark queen Morticia Addams. Chloë Grace Moretz, who played Carrie in Carrie will be the voice behind the creepy yet adorable Wednesday Addams. Finn Wolfhard is playing Pugsley Addams and our favorite witch from Hocus Pocus, Bette Midler is the voice behind Grandmama.
The trailer has become the talk of social media and while some people are absolutely loving it, some are complaining about how different the characters look from the original Addams Family movie and characters. Well, the movie is based on the characters Charles Addams originally created in his comics. Plus, there are a quite a few who are saying the designs look 'ugly' and 'weird'...hate to break it to ya but the whole point of the Addams Family is that - weird and ugly is OKAY.
Directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara are also a part of the star cast. They will be playing the role of a married couple opposite the Addams. "Catherine O’Hara and I are doing voices in the ‘Addams Family’ movie that is being done now. We insisted that we record together. Because we play husband and wife. So that is always beneficial. Catherine is a life-long friend and co-worker so it comes with a very rich short-hand. So there’s an advantage to having us two together in the same room. Often you don’t get to meet the cast members," Short told Metro.
The Addams Family is a satire aimed to mock the so-called perfect American life. The family is unaffected by the fact that people find them macabre and bizarre and continue living their lives as they please. Talking about the animated movie, the director Vernon told ComicBook, "Greg and I have always been a fan of The Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new."
"With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family. This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation," he added.
"Conrad and Greg are masters of animation with the keen ability to create something both kids and their parents will enjoy for different reasons. Adding to that a world-class caliber of talent with Oscar, Charlize, Chloë, Finn, Nick, Bett, and Allison – we can't wait to bring their fresh and modern take on The Addams Family to the worldwide audience," said the president of MGM Motion Pictures Group, Jonathan Glickman. Addams Family animated was initially scheduled to release on 18th October but was moved to 11th to avoid competition with Maleficient's sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The sooner the better!
