'The Christmas Chronicles' Is Getting A Sequel With Kurt Russell And Filming Is Now Underway

The filming for the much-anticipated 'The Christmas Chronicle' sequel has already begun in Vancouver and is being directed by Chris Columbus.

'The Christmas Chronicles 2' officially started filming in September of this year and if reports are to be believed, the much-anticipated movie could be on Netflix in Christmas 2020! The filming is currently taking place in Vancouver and is expected to wrap up just in time for Christmas this year. As reported by Inside Vancouver.

Kurt Russell is coming back as Santa Claus in the sequel and it is also likely to include Mrs. Claus who appeared at the end of the first movie and was portrayed by Goldie Hawn.

The film is being directed by Chris Columbus, whose best-known works include the first two installments of Harry Potter, Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire.

Although it is going to take a year for the second installment to come out, fret not, it is totally worth the wait. And that only means we have that much time to rewatch the first part or watch it for the first time if you haven't already. The film is streaming on Netflix now.

The Christmas Chronicles was released in November 2018 and follows the brother and sister duo Teddy and Kate Pierce, who set out to capture the ever-elusive Santa Claus on camera.

When their plan takes an unexpected turn for the worst, the siblings must now join forces with Santa himself, in order to save Christmas. It is a fun and light-hearted Christmas film directed by Clay Kaytis, best known for directing The Angry Birds Movie. The production company behind the first movie was Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures.

Although some might consider the plot of this film to be predictable, the audience fell in love with Kurt Russell who portrays a very endearing Santa. He is even considered by some to be the most likable Santa in a Christmas film in years. This film fared well on Netflix with over 20 million streams within the very first week. Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix said earlier this year, " Even in his successful career, [Kurt Russell] has never had that many people see one of his movies in the first week ever,” as reported by Independent.

The film is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit with its heart-warming lessons about family and easily takes up a spot on the "must-watch" Christmas movies. So gather your friends and family for a Christmas movie marathon and make sure to watch The Christmas Chronicles!
