Thousands of fans have written to Netflix, expressing their wish to see a sequel soon and we are definitely rooting for it!
In the last few years, Netflix has emerged as the pioneer of modern entertainment and provided its viewers with some of the best TV shows and movies out there. In fact, some of Netflix's originals have created such a major buzz among people, that they have broken massive records when it comes to popularity and The Christmas Chronicles is one of them. Every year Christmas enthusiasts look for good Christmas movies to feast upon and last year their merry thirst was quenched by the Netflix original starring The Thing's Kurt Russell.
Released on November 22, the movie was sooo loved by people that it immediately found its way to people's 'must watch' list. Not only that, apparently people loved the movie to such an extent that they just couldn't get enough of it and watched it over and over, making the movie one of the most streamed movies in the history of Netflix! According to reports, in just a mere week, The Christmas Chronicles was watched by more than 20 million people!
People absolutely loved Kurt Russell as Santa, some even referring to him as 'Daddy Santa' now, which was one of the major reasons behind the movie's success, the direction and the movie plot being the others. Directed by Clay Kaytis, the Christmas movie took Netflix by storm and even the ones who watched it once, couldn't help but watch it again with their families and, spread the Christmas joy!
Netflix's Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, announced that the movie is going crazy viral. “Even in his successful career, [Kurt Russell] has never had that many people see one of his movies in the first week ever,” Sarandos said at UBS Global Media and Communications Conference on Monday (December, 3), as reported by Independent. “That’s a testimony to what we can bring to the market for storytellers today that we couldn’t have ten years ago.”
Sarandos also equated that if each view were to count as a ticket, the movie opened with a grand $200 million in its first week. “Even movies that go on to $1 billion don’t typically do that in the first week," Ted revealed. The movie, no doubt, was a clear hit but we are not so sure if the math Sarandos did here is correct and if the success of Netflix exclusive movies can be compared with the movies who compete at the BoxOffice but we are definitely rooting for a sequel!
There's no denying the fact that The Christmas Chronicles was indeed a massive hit with the Christmas loving crowd and the fans are already wishing for a sequel. And, according to sources, they won't have to wait much. In the sweet light of success, there's no reason why the creators of The Christmas Chronicles would hold back a sequel and not release one during the next festival season. We demand to see Kurt Russell as a sassy Santa once again.
In the movie which was released during Thanksgiving, the plot revolved around a Santa who teams up with two kids and sets on an adventure to deliver presents - classic Christmas material. The children also try to record the Santa on tape so they can prove to others that the father of Christmas indeed exists, only Kurt Russell looked more like the Daddy Christmas rather than the Daddy of Christmas.
Talking about the movie and his role, Russell said, "It’s funny. For 25 years after The Thing, I only had clean-shaven parts. Then I got on a roll where every part had this ridiculous facial hair thing going on. On The Hateful Eight, I had to grow that crazy mustache. Goldie [Hawn, his long-term partner] hated it. And it’s only gotten bigger. For Santa, it’s all out. But me? No. Don’t have one." Kurt's performance as Santa was so loved by the audience, some are saying it was Oscar-worthy.
According to Netflix life, the team behind The Christmas Chronicles is surely thinking about making a sequel but since the movie is still new, we can expect the sequel in late 2020. However, there has been no official comment from the director of the movie and maybe if Kurt Russell refuses to act, the movie might not happen. We don't see why he'd say no though. Thousands of fans have written to Netflix, expressing their wish to see a sequel soon. Let's see if our wishes will be granted! Will you be watching The Christmas Chronicles 2?
