After playing Joker in Suicide Squad, Jared Leto is now back as the pale, undead creature known as Morbius, the Living Vampire.
The first trailer for Sony's 'Morbius: The Living Vampire' has been released yesterday and it sees Jared Leto starring as the pale, undead creature known as Morbius, the Living Vampire. This movie from Sony is all set to introduce one more nemesis of Spiderman after the release of Venom in 2018. If you watch the teaser trailer, you can also spot a few easter eggs that tie the movie with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the trailer, Jared Leto is seen wearing heavy makeup, which, coupled with the use of some superior video effects, makes him look even less recognizable when he played the role of Joker in the movie 'Suicide Squad'. Even though his portrayal of Joker in the movie 'Suicide Squad' was met with severe criticism, let's hope that this performance of Leto will be able to change that.
'Morbius: The Living Vampire' is based on the Marvel comic of the same name and the character played by Leto in the movie is a scientist who is suffering from a condition of a rare blood disease and he tries to find a cure, which, in turn, turns him into a vampire. Apart from Jared Leto, other casts of the movie include Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. The movie is being directed by Daniel Espinoza.
The official synopsis of the movie reads, "Biochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead."
Morbius made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 in 1971, which was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. Since his debut, Morbius has become a regular and important villain, but later on, he turned into a tragic hero who goes on a quest to find the cure of vampirism, where he also continues his fight with both the good and bad guys.
As we mentioned earlier, two very clear easter eggs have been included in the first trailer, the first being when Morbius is seen walking on a street where a painting of Spiderman is shown with the words 'murderer' written over his picture. Seeing this, it most likely means that the movie will follow the events that happened after 'Spiderman: Far From Home' where our friendly neighborhood Spiderman's identity is disclosed and he is blamed for the murder of Mysterio.
At the very end of the trailer, Michael Keaton is also seen where, he most likely, reprises his character. He was last seen finishing his prison sentence at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, so his appearance might suggest that he has escaped prison. As he is seen interacting with Morbius in the trailer, it most likely suggests that he has been looking for him. Since the trailer has dropped, fans have hinted that it could be a beginning the formation of Sinister Six, the supervillain group created to destroy Spider-Man.
Well, in order to know all the answers to these questions, all these will be known once the movie is released, which is all set to release on July 31 in the UK and US.
