The trailer stars Sarah Paulson as a killer mother who is hell-bent on dominating her daughter in every aspect of her life.
Sarah Paulson might have become a household name among horror fans because of American Horror Story, but there is absolutely no denying that she is truly a versatile actress. And now Paulson can be seen in the first trailer of her new horror thriller 'Run' which revolves around the story of a mother who is hell-bent on controlling every aspect of her daughter's life.
On the outside, she seems like a regular mother who takes care of her wheelchair-user daughter. It all seems very normal until her daughter begins to suspect that her mother might not be the person who she says she is and has much more dangerous intentions. The movie is directed by Aneesh Chaganty. Back in 2018, Chaganty made headlines after his debut feature movie 'Searching' hit the screens. Searching is a mystery-thriller starring John Cho as a single dad and trying to find his teenage daughter after she disappears.

The movie was completely shot on computer screens and smartphones and it went on to become a box office hit, grossing $75.5 million on a budget of $880K. The movie was also regarded as a critical success and earned a lot of appreciation for the innovative kind of storytelling and the way Chaganty used his genre as a means to explore the themes of parenting in a much more deeper way.
For his second movie, Chaganty will continue to explore ideas on parenting, but this time, it will be a very, very different story. The screenplay is written by Chaganty and his Searching co-writer Sev Ohanian.

The official synopsis of 'Run' reads, "They say you can never escape a mother’s love… but for Chloe, that’s not a comfort — it’s a threat. There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen) and her mom, Diane (Sarah Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp. From the visionary writers, producers, and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to RUN."
The first official trailer dropped last week and fans are quite excited to see what Sarah Paulson brings to the table this time. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Paulson compared her character in the movie Run with that of Brian de Palma's Carrie and how it served as an inspiration for her performance. When you watch the trailer it seems Diane has a lot in common with another character from the Stephen King world—the mentally disturbed nurse Annie Wilkes from Misery.
Run is currently slated to be released on May 8, just two weeks after the release of Black Widow and it will face-off directly against The Personal History of David Copperfield. Run is made on a small budget and it doesn't require a very large box office collection to turn over a good profit margin. But only time will tell what impact it leaves on the viewers.
