If you were among those, who is a sucker for horror movies and loves a good scare at night, 'The Conjuring Universe' is getting a new movie, courtesy The Nun sequel.
When the first trailer of 'The Nun' released last year, fans of 'The Conjuring' universe were scared out of their wits. The trailer had everything in it -- jumpscares, ominous background, a creepy looking Nun and whatnot. However, when the movie did release, people were let down considering the hype that it created! Although the horror movie did excellent numbers at the box office, the critics were far from pleased with the storyline and the execution of 'The Nun.'
But if you were among those, who is a sucker for horror movies and loves a good scare at night, we have some pretty amazing news! 'The Conjuring Universe' is getting a new movie, courtesy The Nun sequel, reports EW.
“I think there is an inevitability to another Nun movie,” Peter Safran, producer of all the Conjuring universe films, told Entertainment Weekly. “We have a really fun storyline for that teed up, so I think that that’s the next one that will be written.”
Played by Bonnie Aarons, the character of the Nun made its first appearance in 2016’s James Wan-directed The Conjuring 2.
“Yeah, it was two days of additional shooting,” says Safran. “We just felt like the demon that we had in Conjuring 2 was not as compelling as we wanted it to be. It was James of that came up with the idea. You know, what’s the most blasphemous thing you could think of? And that is a demonic nun.”
British filmmaker Corin Hardy, who is known for his Ireland-set folk-horror movie, The Hallow, was given the directorial duties for The Nun. And it just became one among many Conjuring Universe movies over the past six years. It all started with James Wan's original Conjuring film that became an instant hit among horror buffs.
It also paved the way for an entire universe of supernatural horror movies on haunted dolls and demonic nuns. This was soon followed by John R. Leonetti's Annabelle in 2014, followed by The Conjuring 2. And then came David F. Sandberg's Annabelle: Creation which was itself a prequel to Leonetti's film - in 2017.
“After Annabelle 2, we said, ‘We’ve told several families-in-danger in a possessed environment [films]. We really wanted to go far away from that in terms of its look, its feel, the geography, the landscape, everything," Safran said.
"Once we knew that people were truly interested in The Nun we said, ‘This is a perfect opportunity to take it outside of America, to take it outside of what people are familiar with, and really place it in a unique environment.’ [We] went over there and shot in Transylvania at those incredible hooded-door castles."
Safran also spoke about how the film was successful in its own way: "Even though obviously, the film was somewhat savaged by critics, you don’t get to that kind of box office success without at least the audience the enjoying it. It’s impossible, you can’t have that.”
If you are a horror fan, the Conjuring Universe has a handful of movies lined up so that you can look forward to some sleepless nights. This year, we will get to watch The Curse of La Llorona, which is said to be a spin-off of The Conjuring. It is set to reach cinemas on April 19. This will soon be followed by the much-awaited 'Annabelle Comes Home' on June 28.
Wait, that's not all! We will also be treated with a third Conjuring film set for release in 2020 and another Conjuring 2 Spin-Off, The Crooked Man – which although doesn’t have a planned release as of now.
'The Nun' movie starred Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Bonnie Aarons and Charlotte Hope among others. With the sequel inevitably on its way, one thing is certain -- the movie will be bigger, darker and scarier than ever. Until then, you can catch up with the other horror movies from 'The Conjuring Universe', that are on its way this year!
