It's Official: 'The Purge 5' Is Happening And It Will Be The Last And Most Brutal One

The Purge is returning for a fifth and last ever movie and all hell will break loose once again, ready your weapons and prepare to hide.

Call 911 because it is time for the annual Purge! Wait...you can't. One of the nastiest movie franchises ever made, a visual treat for the twisted ones and a NO for the squeamish, The Purge is returning once again with its fifth movie. Universal Studios has announced that they are working on another Purge movie and sadly, this will be the last time the emergency services are shut down countrywide and all crime is permitted, including murder. Currently untitled, the horror-thriller is in development and all set to release next year. Are you ready to Purge? Ready your weapons and prepare to hide.

James DeMonaco's first Purge movie released in 2013 was such a huge hit with the horror crowd that they went ahead and created sequels and even a TV show. Starring Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane, and Max Burkholder, The Purge became one of those very few low budget movies that actually SMASHED the BoxOffice. Following its success, The Purge: Anarchy was released in 2014, The Purge: Election Year in 2016, and a prequel last year titled The First Purge.

Keeping in mind that all the movies so far have been successful and loved by the audience, it comes as a no brainer that the studio is pushing out another sequel. In fact, they've been talking about ever since The First Purge came out. But, they also don't want to overdo it and ruin a good franchise so, the upcoming fifth Purge movie is going to be the LAST one. No more chaos, and destruction. It's the end of a terrifying era, people.

But, James says he has thought of a really cool way to end the franchise and people will love it. “I have it in my head,” DeMonaco told EW last year. “I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”

The movie is set to release on July 10, next year and if they don't move the release date, it will be competing against Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters, another highly anticipated movie sequel. As far as the fate of the TV show is concerned, we've learned that The Purge has been renewed for a second season owing to all the great reviews and impressive ratings. Starring Gabriel Chavarria, Hannah Emily Anderson, Jessica Garza, Lili Simmons, Amanda Warren, Colin Woodell, and Lee Tergesen in season one, brace for season 2!

"James DeMonaco has done it again: the propulsive and compelling story he created for season one of The Purge truly resonated with audiences in a significant way. We are thrilled to embark on season two and can't wait to bring more of James' vision to USA and fans of The Purge," Jason Blum, producer of both the Purge movies and the show, announced the second season. While we loved the first season's cast, expect to see all new faces in season 2.

"We love all the characters, but... you know, we'll have a lot of new characters," DeMonaco revealed. "I think the beauty of [it] is that with each new Purge, we could have new faces that emerge. So unlike a lot of shows, which have to have people coming back, we're not bound to that. So yeah, there is talk about bringing, I'll say some people, back," he added. Will you be watching? Which Purge movie is your favorite?
