Turns Out, 'The Simpsons' Even Predicted Ted Cruz's Cancun Trip 28 Years Ago

Mayor Quimby tries to fool the Springfield residents into thinking he was working from his office, when in fact, he skipped town to vacation in the Bahamas.

'The Simpsons' have done it again! While the state of Texas was left reeling from a ferocious snowstorm, Ted Cruz was at Cancun on a family vacation. Millions of Texans had to endure freezing temperatures and widespread power outages and they criticized the Republican Senator for abandoning his constituents in their time of need.

The iconic Simpsons series is known for its bizarre segments where they somehow predict the future. It's happened far too many times and we are mindblown every single time. Twitter users recently found out that Ted Cruz's vacation getaway to Mexico was also a plot on the show, nearly 28 years ago. In the 1993 episode titled 'Marge In Chains', one can see Mayor Quimby doing the exact same thing. Although they didn't predict the snowstorm, Springfield was going through an epidemic, similar to coronavirus.

Mayor Quimby tries to fool the residents into thinking that he was working from his office, when in fact, he skipped town to vacation in the Bahamas. He even makes a televised address to the residents of Springfield. Sounds too familiar, doesn't it?

“People of Springfield, because of the epidemic, I have canceled my vacation to the Bahamas,” he says. “I shall not leave the city ...” Right after this, he is interrupted by a musician in a bathing suit. “Hey you, get that steel drum out of the, uh, mayor’s office!”

Ever since fans got to know about this coincidence, they took to Twitter to share their amusement. One Twitter user wrote: "I remember when Ted Cruz did Simpsons impressions for a Buzzfeed video. Turns out his specialty is Mayor Quimby." Meanwhile, another added: "I don’t really look too deep into those “The Simpsons predicted the future!” type posts but I think they nailed the @tedcruz one." A third quipped in saying: "I wonder if Ted Cruz tries to mend conflicts with his family by nervously doing Simpsons impressions."

This is not the first time Simpsons nearly predicted the future. Recently, we wrote about how the classic animated show even predicted the rise of teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg. The 2007 Simpsons feature film shows Lisa trying to save Springfield from an environmental catastrophe. Homer's daughter has always been passionate about climate change and the environment. In one of the scenes, Lisa can be seen giving a speech to her classmates about the effects of climate change on Springfield in the next 50 years. She warns her friends about the consequences of climate change unless some preventive measures are taken.

Many fans claimed that this scene reminded them of Greta Thunberg who also gave an impassioned speech at the United Nations Climate Action Summit two years ago. This also led many to believe Lisa Simpson is basically Greta Thunberg considering the resemblance is truly uncanny.
