Zac Efron Reportedly In Talks To Play Jack Sparrow In 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' Reboot

Seeing any other actor than Johnny Depp play the iconic Jack Sparrow will always be a hard pill to swallow.

Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp. These two have been synonymous with each other ever since we watched the first movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. Yes, it was almost 17 years ago and the first thought when someone mentions Captain Jack Sparrow has always been Johnny Depp.

However, according to We Got This Covered, there have been quite a few rumors about Zac Efron playing a young Captain Jack Sparrow and taking the lead role for a Pirates Of The Caribbean prequel series on Disney+. Honestly, we don't know how to feel about this.

Although, yes we agree, the thought of a new prequel series for the beloved franchise sounds like a great idea but seeing someone else play Jack Sparrow will always be a hard pill to swallow.

Nothing has been confirmed so far and not just Zac Efron but there are other actors who are being eyed to play the young Jack Sparrow. According to the report, the series could follow the iconic character on his adventures as he goes on treasure hunts around the world.

There have also been other reports like Inquisitr that suggest that Zac Efron could be eyed for the role in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' reboot movie and not a prequel series. Of course, there is no official statement on this so far.

Meanwhile, recently it was announced that Johnny Depp was officially out of the iconic Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. This was nearly confirmed by none other than Sean Bailey, Disney's production chief,  who told The Hollywood Reporter, "We want to bring in new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that's what I've tasked them with." Although he didn't take Depp's name, Bailey did not deny reports of Depp being dropped from the franchise.

It will be interesting to see how any actor tries to fill in the shoes of Johnny Depp and his iconic character. Without a doubt, whoever plays Jack Sparrow will be under immense scrutiny and he will always be compared to the veteran actor.

Meanwhile, Zac Efron will be seen in the upcoming 'Scooby Doo' reboot along with a stellar cast. The animated movie includes Mark Wahlberg (Blue Falcon), Amanda Seyfried (Daphne) Gina Rodriguez (Velma), Will Forte (Shaggy), Tracy Morgan (Captain Caveman), Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo) and Kiersey Clemons (Dee Dee Skyes).
