The beloved teen hit 'Zombies' from 2018 is returning with another movie and this time around, things will be crazier.
Pretty much anything Disney creates garners massive attention from teens and young adults and 2018's 'Zombies' was no different. If anything, the movie seemed as if zombie classic Warm Bodies had a baby with Disney's iconic High School Musical and obviously, the Disney original musical zombie movie was loved by the audience. Premiered on February 16, 2018, and based on Zombies & Cheerleaders by David Light and Joseph Raso, the plot of the movie revolved around a zombie football player and a human cheerleader who fall in love with each other.
Starring Milo Manheim, Meg Donnelly, Trevor Tordjman, and Kylee Russell, the movie had literally all elements of entertainment from romance to horror and the film received positive feedback from viewers and critics as well. And, in case you are one of those who absolutely loved the movie, we're glad to inform you that Disney has announced that they are working on a Zombies sequel and things will be crazier this time around.
According to Deadline, in addition to humans and zombies, the sequel will also feature werewolves! Pearce Joza from Mech X-4, Chandler Kinney from Lethal Weapon and Ariel Martin have joined the star cast of the upcoming Zombies 2 and they will be playing werewolf siblings -- Willa, Wyatt, and Wynter. As far as the old cast members are concerned they are coming back to reprise their roles, at least some of them.
Kylee Russell as Eliza, Trevor Tordjman as Bucky, Carla Jeffery as Bree, James Godfrey as Bonzo and Kingston Foster as Zoey are returning along with Meg Donnelly as Addison and Milo Manheim will be back as hot zombie Zed. The movie will begin production on May 27. Zombies grabbed the highest rating among all the original Disney content last year and it is STILL number 1 as Disney's video on demand and most watched on Disney +. In other zombie movie revival news, Warm Bodies, too, is coming back! No, not a sequel but instead the zombie movie is being adapted into a TV series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, director Jonathan Levine along with Lionsgate, is working on a Warm Bodies TV show and we couldn't be any more thrilled! In a deal with production banner Megamix, Levine along with former Lionsgate exec Gillian Bohrer, who previously worked with him on the movie as well, are set to revive the zombie comedy movie. They have also worked together for movies like La La Land and Twilight.
An official announcement was made about the upcoming Warm Bodies TV series recently by Kahane and Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs and Levine is as excited as we are. “Lionsgate is the perfect home for Megamix, a studio to both my most successful and favorite moviemaking experiences. Joe and Nathan have been great collaborators and friends who have supported me over the years and are as committed as Gillian and I are to nurture unique, creative and commercial visions and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”
Bohrer also added, "Jonathan and I have a shared passion for movies that defy the conventional wisdom about what defines a ‘commercial movie.’ I loved the diverse slate of projects I was able to shepherd at Lionsgate, and we're delighted to bring Megamix to a company that believes in taking risks.” No other details have been revealed about the small screen adaptation of the movie as of yet but we hope they manage to bring in the original cast!
